I wouldn't be caught dead playing any of them and I love SG's.
Sure, glue makes everything stronger but dang..
Lets be honest here with all the griping about plywood. Many revered hollowbodies have plywood construction. Ever hear of a 335 or a Gretsch Guitars?
It's one thing to use plywood on a hollow or semi-hollow, but in a solid body?

I think someone at Gibson is an avid shooter and got a little too excited about laminated gun stocks like these (which I've seen a surge of in the recent years):

Not exactly my thing, but it is eye catching...
Why?
Have you heard a birch ply solid body guitar? I know I haven't. It may sound like crap, it may not.
I'm not doing this to intentionally start an argument, but I just don't understand how so many people consistently (not just in this thread) say that something is going to sound like crap, without even having playing one. Who knows, it might blow some people away...
When I saw the thread that was what I pictured and actually thought it would rock.Oh, for Christ sakes..... *headdesk*
Does anyone at Gibson even know what a zoot suit is? How does this:

translate into a guitar that looks like that? If I wanted to do a zoot suit Gibson, I'd do it up in straight black and/or white with some classy chrome hardware and some pinstriping down the side and maybe a textured pickguard... ebony board with some unique inlay, maybe include a stylized case or a strap but good God man WTF did Gibson pick out of their stool now? Sheesh.
The low-end Martin acoustics I've seen have laminate necks like that and I didn't think they sounded that nice. I'm sure some people on here have played a solidbody plywood guitar back in the days when asian-made guitars were nothing like they are today.
I'm sure Gibson pulls it off sounding somewhat decent, and I think a rigid body on something as thin as an SG isn't terrible, but this screams cheapness and I'd have a hard time believing it sounds as good as normal wood.
Danelectro does it. just kidding
Nobody loves SG's more than I do, I have a few of them, but this is pushing the boundaries perhaps a bit more than they should be. I can't see these being big sellers to anyone but a few burnt-out Dead fans.
You know, I've been trying to get them to make a Super SG (HSS with P-90's, and a 5-way switch), which would have a market, and they come out with this & the 'Reverse V' which have no chance of ever being anything more than long-forgotten novelties. Have they implemented a random drug testing program at Gibson yet? From the world's leader in electric guitar design in the 1950's, to this, another chapter in "The circus comes to town."
Most of the original zoot suits were silver-grey with thin vertical stripes. Their making reference to the stripes.Oh, for Christ sakes..... *headdesk*

I've been smoking for 17 straight hours in an attempt to make these guitars work for me.
Sadly, they still look dreadful...however, my carpet has turned into a dragon and is attempting to eat the cat, so all is not lost.
