Species
The body of the Zoot Suit features a brand new body built with multiple birch wood laminate pieces (each one approximately .075” thick), each dyed with a different color then compressed and bonded together to form one solid block of wood. No paint is used. Each body is given two coats of satin nitrocellulose lacquer.
Average Weight
The average weight of a Zoot Suit body is 5.7 lbs, which is slightly heavier than normal but actually creates more balance, a solid feel, and brighter tones that prove compatible with the pickup configuration.
Tonal Characteristics
The solid body yields maximum sustain and enhanced resonance.
Other Materials
The glue is a proprietary Type 1 glue that forms an everlasting bond, and enhances the tonal characteristics of the body.

Okay...there is mos def a tie died hippie on an acid trip working in the Gibson Design Dept. :eyecrazy: :stooges: :eyecrazy:

Could this be the "Cheech & Chong" Signature Model Series???

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

talk about grabbing at straws!! the bad thing is i'm kind of digging the blue one!! wonder how much they cost? wonder what the neck feels like? kinda wonder about reliability. is that a piece of metal on the headstock?

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

Nobody loves SG's more than I do, I have a few of them, but this is pushing the boundaries perhaps a bit more than they should be. I can't see these being big sellers to anyone but a few burnt-out Dead fans.

You know, I've been trying to get them to make a Super SG (HSS with P-90's, and a 5-way switch), which would have a market, and they come out with this & the 'Reverse V' which have no chance of ever being anything more than long-forgotten novelties. Have they implemented a random drug testing program at Gibson yet? From the world's leader in electric guitar design in the 1950's, to this, another chapter in "The circus comes to town."

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

They must be smoking the realll good stuff at Gibson these days. That or they're letting their kids come up with these crayon vomit designs.

Ding ding ding, we got a winner folks!

Someone is blowing their Bullsh1t weed breath into Gibsons HVAC system. :smack:

....the 3rd one is kind of cool.

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

Normally, a guitar made like this would be a "plywood POS", but if you stain the little layers before you glue them together, then it's a art.

My second electric guitar (early 70's four... count 'em four-pickup Teisco) had a neck like that, but without the rainbow colors.

I'm sure it's way overpriced for a dressed-up plywood POS, but I kinda like the first rainbow one. I would prefer a solid black peghead veneer (they really don't need to show off more of the rainbow laminate), and why oh why did they cheap out with the master volume and tone instead of the usual 4-pot setup? (Oh yeah, I answered my own question - 'cuz they're cheap.)

P.S. ...and I can do without the clear pickup covers. Those harken back to another lowpoint of Gibson's product-development history: the Marauder/S-1 era.

I'm glad someone else had the sense to make a post about this too! I really don't know how I feel about it.

I'm not a burn out...

But I do I like these, not so much the Blue one. I'm really not into all these new Gibson "reinventing-the-wheel" axes, so I would have to call these a guilty pleasure. No way I would ever buy one, especially for however much Gibby is ripping people off for these days.

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

Plywood? Seriously? They must be running out of mahogany. Want to bet it will cost a pretty penny?

I wouldn't be caught dead playing any of them and I love SG's.

Sure, glue makes everything stronger but dang...

Only thing nice I can say about it is the pups. Those look badass, they belong on an SG Gothic.
