Gibson SG Zoot Suit

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

it is rock and roll. it isn't supposed to be traditional and it's supposed to constantly reinvent itself.

jesus christ it's like none of you ever took the brown acid.

Look at it! It's hideous! I like a bit of class in my rock and roll.

The Paris Hilton pink "hellow kitty" SG. Wow eye popping cool:eyecrazy:

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

Fender's got the licensing rights for Hello Kitty. Maybe Gibson can get like My Little Pony or Rainbow Brite or something.

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

soon as my shop gets one i will give it the full rundown. I have been talkin to my regional manager about it and he hates it but he's a total 58 reissue dude so that makes sense.

i know if i get one at my shop it will last maybe until christmas.

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

Why would a compressed laminate wood neck and body sound any good...??
Come on now, why doesn't Gibson work on building their same old guitars the right way, for a change..now there's a concept. Sad

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

These guitars could be used by the teletubbies or the wiggles

Not the Wiggles:

Murray Cook, lead guitarist of world famous Australian children's band The Wiggles is known for using a Maton Mastersounds 500 guitar for some of his onstage work.

I wouldn't mind doing kids songs. I wouldn't mind getting the kind of cash Murray gets. They make the majority of their own music. Don't diss the Wiggles. :poed:

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

I didn't read through all the replies, because really I don't care what you guys have to say ;)

What it looks like to me is that the idea of the old laminated necks from Japan (Tiesco was the largest user) has seen new light. The Martin Stratabond necks taken to a completely different level.

Do I hate them? Nope. I hate the color scheme. To me it screams "wimp", but whatever. I think they'll sound quite nice, just like an SG should. Will it have all the vintage tone? Don't hold your breath. But I'll put my money down that when you hear it and play it, it's going to sound like an SG. I constantly praise Martin for their use of sustainable woods, less waste, and the use of HPL (laminates have actually become more expensive than solid hardwoods of lesser known uses), so I will praise Gibson in their effort to keep the guitars going, steping out of the box, and to keep guitars in the hands of players.

But God **** that thing is ugly.

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

Excuse the necro-bump, but I thought I might chime in. I recently purchased an Ibanez PF200 LP copy. I played it in the store, and was amazed at how good it sounded. Very fat and masculine. I traded it for my MIM tele. It was only later that I discovered that the tops on these things are laminated maple. The body is comprised of about 20 chunks of mahogany, the neck is 3 pieces of maple and the headstock is five. There is no lack of sustain. I prefer it to either one of the all solid wood Gibson Les Pauls I've previously owned. This had led me to the conclusion that plywood can actually be used to make a decent guitar. The Zoot Suit is obviously overpriced for sure, but all Gibsons are. I think the more sedate color schemes look nice. And this guy has proven that they can sound nice as well:

I have to agree with this one. You can talk all day and night about what sounds best, but I know my best sounding guitar is made of laminate wood (I know its not a kind of wood, but a technique, I dont know how else to refer to it though), and I've heard some positively dead solidbody alder and swamp ash guitars. Sometimes we need to use our ears more than our minds.

Re: Gibson SG Zoot Suit

LOL hmmm... I actually like the 2nd and 3rd colors...

Hehehehh.. Well pretty creative for sure. I wonder if there is a sound difference from a mahogany solid body.
