Re: Gibson VS Fender

I want a guitar, with a telecaster body shape, that's made out of mahogany with a maple cap. It needs to have a set mahogany neck, with a rosewood fretboard, that is not bound. It needs to have the fender scale, and a traditional fender headstock. It also needs to have humbuckers, the traditional fender control layout for a tele, but a TOM bridge.

Where do I vote?

There is no cross-pollination option, but: Fender.

Hope that helps.

Re: Gibson VS Fender

To quote famous Nashville guitar collector, dealer, and author George Gruhn: "Telecasters look like a high school shop project."

Hardly the work of art an LP is.

I enjoy Teles, but that's a great quote.

As John 5 once said, in regard to his signature Teles, "If I'm ever up the creek without a paddle, I'll know what to do."

Everyone knows Strats are the works of art.

Re: Gibson VS Fender

As much as I love Gibsons, I am going to have to go with Fender. I just cannot do without an Esquire/Tele. It'd be the one guitar I'd choose if I had to have only one.

Good thing none of us actually have to make this choice.

Agree. Plus, my Gibson is Hamer.

Re: Gibson VS Fender

This is a bizarre reason. "Things" that can be easily taken off, is the neck. The vast majority of players never break or crack a neck or headstock in their entire lives. This has no virtue as a selling point to anyone lacking basic hand-eye coordination skills. However, it would seem that Fender inherently attracts those amongst us who are prone to dropping guitars or leaving on the floor. and going thru stacks of necks. I imagine that their houses are littered with the remains of guitars that have been broken over the years: "Watch where you step Earl, there's a new Tele right in front of...aw geez, well it's a good thing I have a some spares. Bobbi Sue, be a doll and get me one of them necks on the living room floor, one that's not splintered."

With a 'modular' neck, you also have trade-offs with some neck pockets that don't fit right, requiring wood-working or shims. It's not all beer and skittles you know. :14:

:lmao:

I do appreciate the humor!

That said, I realize that I may not be the norm, but I am one that has thrown my guitars across the stage plenty in the past, and done enough long distance moving, to justify a neck-off guitar. My Strat and Tele are already in Phoenix (shipped on the jet in my trusty USMC seabag), and now I'm back in Madison sweating the details of shipping my set neck Hamers.

Actually you mostly describe the Music Man Steve Morse model.

Re: Gibson VS Fender

Fortunately I don't have to choose I love them both. O own Telecasters, Stratocasters, Les Paul, 335, SG, 359 and some other "odd" Companies guitars. I play Fenders & Gibsons exclusively. I prefer to select the right instrument for the job. When I play Hendrix(I try to do it justice but it's hard) I will always select a Fender Strat, when I play Stormy Monday I prefer either my 335 or a Les Paul. The Les Paul is a great guitar, but I really find it to be too heavey to play it all night so I generally will bring two guitars to a gig. Usually a STRAT & A Gibson
