Good call, Drew. If I may elaborate ...
Bascially any recording on Sun records in the 50's will have that delay sound, since that was the "trademark" of the Sun Studios "sound" ... that wicked slap back delay.
You can hear classic analog delays all the way up until the late 70's, when digital delays became popular (and affordable).
A classic example of analog delay would be the recorded and live versions of Zepplin's Dazed and Confused ...

That would have been my call...also if you have heard Hinkin of Bobo (the latese Aerosmith album) Joe uses quite a bit of delay, and it is all analog...digital is cool for lots of stuff, and I won't be giving up my DD-5 anytime soon, but an analog delay has so much charter to the tone...I love it, and I really miss having my dad's old space echo...

and if i may elaborate even more, the delay of choice was the echoplex, though scotty had an amp built by ray butts that had delay built in

a lot of times the echoplex would be put on everything, guitar, vocals, drums, all that

This is all correct. That really was the golden age of amp building, man, 1948-1980, imo.

Drew, fer a young'in you know quite a bit about the history of the electric guitar. My hat's off to you!

If they weren't a grand I would already have one, delay is something that I just do not use all the time so I can't justify the cost of the new Fulltone, but that's what I really want!!!

this has nothing to do with delay, but i'll add that one of the first intentional distortions happened when paul burlison dropped his deluxe, and a power tube came out halfway, and he turned it on & the band said yeah man, that's cool, so in the studio they intentionally pulled out a powertube halfway

you can hear it, complete with a '55 tele, on the rock & roll trio's recording of 'train kept a rollin', which was later done in powerchord form by the yardbirds

...and duane eddy recorded in a grain siloh

I don't know how they sound, but Ibanez just re-issued their analog delay pedal. It's under 100.00 .

A little off topic, I use my analog delay through the efx loop.

I lose a bit of attack but it's a small price to pay for the warm tone.

There's an old analog ROSS Stereo Delay (big orange box) at the pawnshop. They sell for 200$. I can grab it for you. It is in perfect condition and comes with the original box!
