Guitar GAS 2025?

Ugh. I try not to think about it. I really don't need another... in fact I feel like I have one too many but I can't let go of any of them, which means that I am currently in possession of the ideal guitar number: n+1.

But! If I had $1k-1.5k to spend, I would get one of those recent 7 string Ibanez Iceman or Xiphos guitars. If I had $2k I would get that hideous but awesome looking Fredrik Thordendal 8 string. And if I had $2500+ to spend I would probably be looking at a used ES 335 or a Yamaha SA2200.

But I try not to think about it.

Ugh.

I'd like to build another Warmoth this year...something like a Soloist out of mahogany, and putting very traditional pickups in it, like Antiquities.

I don't need another guitar, but I did come to the realization in 2024 that I nearly have enough spare parts to assemble a whole guitar. Neck, pickup, electronics, hardware... it's all here except a body. So, I've been browsing the usual sites for strat bodies trying to decide on color and quality. Pickup a cheap strat body (Squier or similar) or have Warmoth build exactly what I would want for about 3x the cost? I'll have something on order as soon as I can make that decision.

I've got a nice Strat body that bought from a forum bro over a decade ago. But the project went by the wayside. I can't remember the brand, but it's 2" thick. I'd let it go cheap, but it's black.

If the forum bro is still here, it's the one you had with the carbon fiber neck.

Here's a weird-looking but pretty cool ESP with an interesting pickup complement - 59/Jazz hybrid neck, 59/JB hybrid bridge.

I like the shape, I like the top, I like the color. At $8k, not a chance.

I was looking for a picture of the Schecter Omen 7 I have been GASing over to post in this thread. The picture came up, and it was a used Schecter Omen 7 for $375. Wait a minute. It is from the store up the road Music Mill, and I can pick it up without shipping and try it out before I leave the store. Click on the page and it is 12 $31 monthly payments through Affirm with no interest. I guess the GAS is over for now. I am the proud owner of a Schecter Omen 7.

The 59/Jazz hybrid is an interesting combo. I wouldn't think the DCR would be different enough for there to be a significant tonal difference.

What's more interesting, is that in the old Duncan specs, the Jazz neck is wound hotter than the 59 neck. On the current webpage, the 59 is wound hotter than the Jazz.

Vice-versa for the bridge. Old 59 bridge is hotter than old Jazz bridge. Current webpage, Jazz bridge hotter than 59 bridge.

My latest one is a little odd, my local shop just got in an Agile LP knockoff, seems to be a really solid build, mahogany with a maple cap, 5 piece neck-through body, but a really fugly teal green finish. I'll post pics when I've got better connectivity (using in-flight Wi-Fi right now...)

Headed to Pakistan? (Sorry folks. Inside joke.)

I think I have that same guitar. Model 3010. But mine leans a bit more to blue. I'll find pics.

Edit: It is kinda teal-ish. It would be funny if we had the same one. Solid guitar, but I love the color.

Here that Agile guitar, weird kind of dyed clear coat, I think... Other than that, it seems to be a really nice instrument...

An Eastman El Rey (ER2 or ER3), and a Gretsch Streamliner of almost any model without the Bigsby. Maybe a Solar or two.

The El Reys are nice! I was going to get one a few years ago, but it was going to cost me quite a bit, and the store would have to order it, and it would take 5 months. I ended up with an Eastman ES335-alike, which was one cool guitar.

That's an interesting color combo. I only have experience with one Agile, but I would compare it with Epiphone or better. Good guitars.

The Streamliners are nice too. I have the little Junior Jet. Solid feel. Needs no new pups. I put in Duncan Psyclones, but put the stock units back in, because it just wasn't a significant improvement.
(Both sounded great.)

Correction: I have the G5426 Electromatic Junior Jet, with the basswood body. The G2210 Streamliner Jet has a mahogany body and the volume control is moved to the lower bout.

I had been gassing for an acoustic, but I found one the other day in a pawn shop up north of me. Old Ibanez Artwood dreadnought. Korean made if I am correct.
