OK, so looks like I’m back in the market for a guitar again. The Michael Kelly is great, but I still want a single cut to round out the collection and then I should be good for awhile. Right now an Agile 3000/3100 is definitely in the mix along with several others. I’m planning on hitting the SA/GC thing this weekend to try out a few things I think they might have. I’m most interested in trying out an Epiphone Custom. I’ve played a lot of standards and hated every one of them, but never a custom. They should have an Ibanez art or arz to look at as well. If I can get my hands on an LTD ec-401vf, Id be really happy to check one out. These are the thicker body, 22 fret models with Seymour’s. Stranger things have happened, but right now I’m looking to stay more traditional, so I’m looking to get something with 22 frets and with body cutouts to a minimum.
I’ve also recently started looking at these Raven West guitars.

The tops look stunning, but they are pretty decked out in the abalone and shiny stuff and we all know that comes at a cost and some sacrifices, so it scares me a bit seeing the $419 price tag. Anyone have any experience with these?

I figure if nothing moves me enough to make a purchase, I’ll pull the trigger on an Agile and finally get to take a look.

Now we come to the important stuff. Guitar shopping as we all know is hard work and I’m probably going to end up pretty hungry by the time I’m finished, so I’m wondering what the consensus is on the best place to grab some chow. Like guitars. I’m looking at the affordable stuff here, so fine dining like bob evans, red lobster and outback steakhouse is out of the question. Anyway, poll is up.

I would not buy anything from RavenWest based purely and entirely on how their website looks.

I've got an AL3100 and an LP Custom. Love both of them. Feel good, and with upgraded PU's, they really sing.

Yes, definitely not the best looking website Ive ever seen, but the guitars do have a raven logo at the 12th fret, so that has to count for something.

Contact Kurt at Agile and see if he'll honor that $465 price on the 3000M...

Thats a good idea and actually one I have thought of. Im just hoping they have one with a wide neck. I think they one they sold for $465 was a plain top, which doesnt matter to me in the slightest. Just maybe wondering if that is how they let it go at that price.

Agiles are my favorite option, cosmetically, but an LTD ec-401vf is easily the best of the guitars you mentioned. My girlfriends dad has an ec-401, I played the hell out of it the last time I visited. It already has a 59 in the neck so that is half the tone battle right there!

P.S. I don't know what Captain Roberto's is, but Steak and Shake destroys all of those other options.

The 401's are definitely out there, but they tend to be priced more than the Agiles even used from what I have seen. Id love to check one out, especially since they are made in indonesia. That raises my caution flag a little bit, wanting me to try one first. I have played a ton of the EC-1000's, though Im thinking the 401vf might be a different animal with the exception of the neck profile.

Im really interested in getting the best value for buck as far as the guitar itself is concerned. The pickups and hardware are an easy fix. If I end up getting an Agile, I have ideas as far as pickups go that wont throw me to far up in price. That is if I dont care for the pickups that are already on it.

Captain Roberto's is the rob option dressed up in restraunt guise

Between the 2, do you have even a slight preference?

I'd give a slight edge to the LPC, as it's got the Gibson-shape cutaway and a better toggle (open vs box). I've got an A8 498T/A5 490R in it, and it sounds wonderful. But you can't go wrong with an AL3100. Get one now, and the other later!

I emailed Kurt. We went back and for a bit. He does reply pretty quickly though a bit vague in answers to a few of my questions which is why there was probably more back and forth than need be. It does look however that we shouldnt be expecting any more 3000Ms to come up at that $465 with case price again. They would probably fly off the shelf at that price if they did.

Incidentally, Wendy's is not nearly the same as Burger King or McDonald's...I'd go to Wendy's any day, but I haven't eaten Burger King or McDonald's in years due to their disgusting food.

I think your right between the 3, however for fast food burgers, I think Hardees blows all 3 away. I dont think there is one where Im going though. Thankfully I have one a few blocks down the road from where I live.
