Guitars that you like just the way they came

Re: Guitars that you like just the way they came

My PRS Johnny Hiland is still stock. Exceedingly rare these days, but I love this thing.

now THAT is a sexy color

Re: Guitars that you like just the way they came

Thanks - I like it too. It's one of those rare PRS finishes that don't have the masked natural binding thing they do. I didn't even realize that when I bought it, but I think it helps the burst look deeper and more luxurious.

Re: Guitars that you like just the way they came

^ that's gorgeous Sir! Its now on my desktop- fills it up perfectly too!

also , the only guitar with a perfect set up were the Gibsons I had, and the Peavey Korean.

Well........ok....no. when your like me and cant afford a "quality" made guitar like Carvin, EVH, Fender USA, Gibson USA and others of that nature (dont give me a lesson on financial responsibility now thank you) that you've all listed its hard to find something that is perfect to my ear in "as-is" condition. My guitar was given to me as a present many moons ago. I thought it was the best and now I know my ears were untrained. Yes I listened to music but I never knew the ins and outs of sound. I didnt know what muddy meant or treble. I also didnt know about Chinese electronics. When I realized that I was holding back the true potential of my guitar I knew what had to be done. I had to upgrade it. While I envy some of you that have turn key guitars I still enjoyed the experience of upgrading and doing most of it by myself. Kudos to all of you truly but im sure you all know that guitars have a ton of potential in them. The way to get it is to upgrade and experiment. Im sure gibson and fender do that to get the best tone and sound on some of their higher end stuff but I know chinese guitar companies dont. Or maybe they do? Whatever im rambling. Cheers. Plus to my eyes and ears my new combo and upgraded guitar is the bees knees. I would put.it.up against any guitar. Thats honestly right there lol.

if im not back in 5 minutes...........just wait longer. :-)

Yes you can experiment and upgrade, but the entire point I wanted to make in this thread was to post guitars that you HAVENT experimented, upgraded, changed. Guitars that you haven't touched the pickups, electronics hardware (not counting something like strap locks)..... You bring out the true potential by playing them as is. That was the point I was trying to make

Indeed I understand. Thats why I said I envy you guys who have guitars like that. I am not that fortunate. If I ever get an Ebony Gibson Custom Les Paul Custom, $4k, I wouldnt do a damn thing to it. Its perfect for me as it is. Hopefully then I can post a pic of it to this forum and tell you howuch I haven't changed it!

Hey man, it's just cool when we, as players, finally get a guitar that inspires us to play, a guitar that we are proud to play and own! So, congratulations on finding one. Who cares if you had to upgrade it to get there, it might not meet the criteria of this particular thread but that doesn't mean you are not one of us. Play on bro.

you can find great les paul customs on the used market. I got mine white custom from an elderly man for like $2200. He bought it with the intention of learning how to play, but never did. So, I got a 6 month old, untouched, mint gibson les paul custom for half the price than if i were to buy it from the store.

I dont know if I would go used. With me I would want to be the first to own it. I love used prices but feel like I want a guitar with no history or memories. I want to make my own path and blaze my own trail with my own memories and history. Maybe dumb sounding to some but to me im a sentimental person. If it was a used guitar played by page or clapton or someone from my favorite band I would buy it and never ever play it. Weird I know, but we all have our little things we do.

Re: Guitars that you like just the way they came

There are a few that have had nothing more than a setup; 513, NF3, SE Soapbar, SA2200, Cropper Classic, all the basses. Pretty much everything else has had something done to them. Actually, I wonder if you'd class the Warmoth's as being "stock"? They've certainly not been touched since they were assembled.

Thats like saying you want a house none has lived in before, or a car none has driven before, or a woman that.....well you get the point. Don't be afraid to go used. Even my EVH, I got used....if you keep your eyes open and be patient, you can find some gems. There are plenty of people that have guitars that they could never have afforded brand new (Me included), but they have them because they got a great deal on the used market. Out of all 15 guitars that I have owned, only 2 of them Ive gotten brand new.

i understand completely with what your saying (i rent a house that was previously rented and lived in, my wife wasnt a virgin, neither was i lol, and my cars were used) and i, but my bond between a guitar needs to be pure. call it stupid or weird or whatever. I have nothing against a used guitar and i know i will be spending way more but like i said before im different and weird to a lot of people. and like i said before we all have our little things we do and this is one of them. I have never in my life bought a new guitar or a used guitar. my two guitars i have now were gifted 10-14 years ago. maybe after i get my dream guitar (new from store) then i will consider used but my mission is to be the first owner of a brand new guitar. i think everyone should experience that once in their life.

Re: Guitars that you like just the way they came

Closest I have come to not messing with STOCK is the 1988 Jackson Soloist Custom Glow In The Dark as it was pretty damn impressive...but...I hate Collared Arms on Floyds and the stock Jackson J50B Bridge HB Pole Pieces completely missed the E Strings so I did swap in a Pre-2004 Seymour Duncan Custom Shop MJ "Evenly Voiced Harmonics" and Floyd Upgrades Old School Threaded Arm...

The only 2 guitars which are still as I bought them are an '85 SG and a late 60's Hagstrom III. The rest of them have been modded......Its like a compulsion really, the modding bit.

Re: Guitars that you like just the way they came

All of them. At least, for the first few months... ;)

Actually, of all the guitars I've ever owned, the Squier Classic Vibe Tele is the one I've left bone stock. It's the one with the overwound Alnico III pickups and they sound phenomenal

'08 Les Paul Standard in desert burst that I bought new in 2010. I wish I never let that one go.
