Hanging guitar hangers in concrete...

I want to hang 3 guitar hangers up, and the wall behind the drywall is an outside concrete wall. Obviously I can't use drywall anchors here (that would mean HUGE holes in the concrete), so I am guessing some sort of concrete screw/anchor system. I can't really see the concrete but can feel it with a screw right behind the drywall, so anyone who knows this stuff better than I do know the correct way to secure these things?

Nail in lead anchor once it's in I won't come out

They have a one that slides in a quarter inch hole and as you tighten the screw the side sissor out to grab

These are two solutions
When I get home I'll post some images

Should be at the local hardware store

As you can see you would want one that reaches through 1/2inches of drywall and then about three quarter inch cinder block

If it solid concrete then a an inch and a half lead anchor with a two inch deep hole

Each of these you set through the hole in the hanger

You won't be able to remove the hanger from the lead anchor ever

The one in the image has a Philips end to remove the center pin then pry the anchor out of the hole

All don't have this

All I'll say is that there is a little wiggle room with drywall anchors, with concrete use the exact bit and fastener specified. ;)

Re: Hanging guitar hangers in concrete...

You need a masonry bit to drill into the concrete/block. Then use a typical plastic screw anchor (not a molly screw like the first one ehdwuld pictured, the second one will work however). You want a hole large enough in the sheetrock so the anchor fits flush on the concrete. When the screw is screwed into the anchor (first through the hanger), the anchor expands and holds tight. You'll need a fairly long screw, probably 2 1/2" min.
If you ever need to remove the hanger, just unscrew it. Leave the anchor in the concrete. It's then a simple task to patch the small hole in the sheetrock.

Re: Hanging guitar hangers in concrete...

Come to think of it, I have never seen drywall directly on an outside concrete wall...always studs to tap into due to insulation (or in commercial place/ inside concrete wall, metal studs). Please excuse my ignorance...is this because you are in the Tampa area and your climate doesn't require all outside walls to be insulated? Or am I just dumb?

Either way the posts above are correct in terms of anchoring.

Re: Hanging guitar hangers in concrete...

I am not sure. The place a I live is a little different, in that it is a free-standing tiny house, where space is at a premium. But I feel the concrete right behind the drywall on this particular wall. I appreciate the suggestions, though. I had planned on using a masonry bit and some sort of anchor, but I was not sure which one to use. When I get home I will take a pick of the anchors ai used in the drywall.

Re: Hanging guitar hangers in concrete...

You could use a Ramset to put up a piece of 2X4 upon which you could then mount the hangers. Use one of the lighter charges, I'm sure that a 16 penny would anchor a 2X4 to block. Use as many as you feel necessary to hold the weight.

Re: Hanging guitar hangers in concrete...

Probably cinder.block not solid concrete

In which case I point back to my earlier posts and images

Re: Hanging guitar hangers in concrete...

I usually use tapcon fasteners in concrete, and drill the hole with a rotary hammer. A masonry bit with a regular drill won't drill well through hard concrete or brick.
