'Cause I really really do! :D

Once you get a hang of how to handle it it's just an awesome amp... you all need one!

I'm therefore assuming the low-end will also be too much... ;)

It does Crunch-uppretty darn well though.

I really need to go to a dealer that sells all the Orange amps and play them, because they've got so many models nowadays that I don't the differences between them all.

The only one I've ever owned is my Tiny Terror, and it's a surprisingly good amp. It's only negative is the lack of an FX loop.

That's how I do it. If I don't have first hand knowledge of something, I don't write anything about it until I do.

There's some companies that produce so many models that it's hard to comment without trying them all.....Orange and Dr. Z come to mind. It's hard to find a store that stocks them all. At least in NY and LA you've got a chance.

Orange has really come on strong! I agree that I wish there was a place round here that stocked some. Only ones Ive ever been able to play is the TT, Miniterror and the Jim Root TT. There was one of the bigger ones I played once long ago, but cant recall the model. It didnt seem to have much gain tho. HUGE volume tho. glad you are loving yours Surgeon!

I wish there was a place around me where I could go and try lots of nice stuff. I'm in a 12k people town 6 jours north of Montreal... Only cheap stuff and very little of it too. I know lots of folks like to whine about guitar center but just being able to go every now and then and be able to try lots of cool gear would be a dream...

Can't see myself parting with mine either. I agree that there seems to be few fans of the amp out there but I can also understand that it's not everyone's cup of tea... Not as conventional sounding as the rockerverbs nor as classic Orange as the ORs and so on...
Let's keep it a secret....;)
Also, changing the tubes to 6Ca7s and biasing them hotter really took it from really good to awesome for me so there may be other reasons why they're not that popular with some folks...

I know the feeling.
I am in a city/town, where we only have 2 guitars stores, and BOTH of them carry entry level gear and SS amps ONLY !

If you want to 'test' an all valve amp, you need to undertake a 12 hour car drive to a BIG city !

So, how did the overall tone changed with that 'mod' ?

Never heard of a 6Ca7 before.

To expensive for my taste lol but lucky you! it must sound great.

Never heard of a 6Ca7 before.

6CA7s can be used in EL34 amps and aren't the same, structurally speaking, as EL34s (tetrode instead of pentode). They have more of a 6L6 feel than regular EL34s. As far as I can tell, the most common nowadays are Electro Harmonix and JJ. Based on the Tubestore the JJs aren't really reminiscent of real 6CA7s (but I'm just paraphrasing here, don't take my word for it).

I loved the EH 6CA7s in my Rocker 30, they kinda gave the bass a bit more thump but not woofiness and made the high-end clearer. However, I never felt they took away much midrange.

In the TV, the major thing they fixed was channel B. I don't like the tone with the shape much higher than noon, I need those mids. However, around 10-11 there isn't enough highs left to make the amp cut through. Switching to 6CA7s allowed me to use it pretty much there (10-11 o'clock) so get all those mids but retain more (I'd say a lot but that's just my ears so...) highs and lows there, keeping the amp quite present when I dial in the right amount of mids.

It's not just the tubes though (I assume), as I said, I also biased the amp quite a bit hotter than it was originally. Based on plate voltage, the amp would've needed to be biased at 43mA to attain the "benchmark" 70% plate dissipation. It was biased quite cool at 34mA. I thought there might be a good reason for that cool bias but still tried it at 40mA and, well, it works quite well for me. I don't think the cleans suffered much (they might be breaking up a bit sooner). The amp just sounds a bit livelier and more responsive (to ME)....

To expensive for my taste lol but lucky you! it must sound great.

It is quite expensive, I just got lucky and scored one for a song... They aren't cheap new but they are not that popular so they show up cheap used once in a while...

Ha... I knew you were gonna dig it. I've played several different model Orange amps in stores and the Thunderverb 50 was my favorite.
