Re: Head/Cab or Combo

it reeeaaaally depends on the application.

if i didn't play in a band, i'd definitely have a 1x12 combo. but for playing out, nothing beats a 50 watt head through a 4x12 (or two) :headbang: :D

Re: Head/Cab or Combo

I don't need a head and cab for my room and occassionally playing out. A 1x12 or 2x12 is plenty for me. Although I'm not going to be buying a handmade amp anytime soon :crying:

Scott,

any possibility of you building one of those nano tube amps ? you know the 1 watt ones.. that would be interesting.. seriously.

Not at this time. ZVEX already has one out there and they're pretty cheap I recall.

Re: Head/Cab or Combo

I voted for combo...

it has to be a 2 x 12.. anything less just doesn't do it for me...

Re: Head/Cab or Combo

i tend to like combos better, just easier all around.

from the looks of the poll, it seems there is a pretty even split as to what people prefer

Re: Head/Cab or Combo

for people that already have an amp/cab(or both), it would be more convient for them, so: head
for people that are getting an amp and dont have an amp already and/or want something smaller, more compact, and one piece: combo

it could honestly go either way IMO
and i would probably buy what ever would be cheaper?

Re: Head/Cab or Combo

Once I get the design down, going from a head to a combo is pretty easy.

I'm getting pretty close to finalyzing (sp?) this design.

I think you guys are going to like it. I've had some great feedback from GJ and Evan and all I can say is that it's coming along nicely.

I hope to have the tweed w/ reverb and the lightning clone done fairly soon. :)

I WANT (DESIGN) DETAILS, DAMNIT!!!

Re: Head/Cab or Combo

sorry, when I get it done, I'll get it done and post some stuff. :)

Re: Head/Cab or Combo

head and cab man, thats what i got meself, go for the head and cab, its winning by 2 points now anyways

Re: Head/Cab or Combo

maybe I should have rephrased the question as in "for those of you that would even consider buying an amp from me"... :)

This poll shows that I should do both, no doubt.

Re: Head/Cab or Combo

It all depends on the amps in question...for Tweeds I would MUCh prefer a combo, for Marshall style stuff I would go head and cab unless it was a JTM 45, then I would want a 2x12 combo...I guess Im a little to traditional bo9ut some of these things!

Re: Head/Cab or Combo

How about if I blow tradition completely and skip tolex and tweed and just go stained wood with a grill cloth over the speaker enclosure?

That would be cool for say a Fender combo, but for Marshall I personally like the Tolex say on a Bluesbreaker or Plexi Head.

But now that I think about It, it might look cool anyway... all depends on the amp I guess.
