Help indetifying some old Japanese Jacksons

Re: Help indetifying some old Japanese Jacksons

Here's my fusion, Just saying

One thing that you may notice is that some models have the scallop on the lower horn and some don't. For a while, people were using that as a visual indicator as to whether it was a Fusion or Dinky, but evidence exists that both models had it, and its use was inconsistent; sometimes a Fusion got it, sometimes not. Same with the Dinkys, especially early examples of both import and USA production models.

Re: Help indetifying some old Japanese Jacksons

Hope I'm not too late to join in here. As a Charvel/Jackson collector, I can thoroughly recommend the Fusion. They're a fantastic all round guitar. Only thing I'd say is get the original pickups out asap as they're usually the weedy pickups that came on the later models. If you're lucky enough to get a late 80's MIJ Charvel Fusion, they come with the punchier pickups that were designed for a more 80's hair metal tone.

The Jackson Professional's are good player guitars imo. Very durable. If I remember rightly, they're the post-production of the Charvel Model series, such as the Model 3-6. Can't remember exactly tohugh. If I remember rightly, the Model 6 became the 650XL which subsequently became the Soloist SL1, the Model 5 became the SL2. The 750XL became the Soloist Archtop and the Model series + some Fusions were the pre-pro's for the Dinky's.

It gets somewhat messy to be fair.

Either way, there's a lot of guitar for the money if you can get them in the right condition and at the right price.

Both my Fusion's have the scallop.

Hey guys, I'm really happy with all your help, you were great. I'm closing the deal with the last dinky I posted here, the one with the JT590, it's in very good condition, good frets and apparently the floyd is in good shape. It is going to cost me $325 with free shipping, which is a really good price in my opinion (things here in Brazil are waaay overpriced due to the abusive import taxes).

You can't go wrong with a Fusion and the JT590 is a super solid trem. Some of mine are well over 20 years old now and feel just as good as the day they were made. Service them every so often, and they will treat you well.

Congrats! I think you'll be really happy with that guitar. The necks on those are super thin and fast, like an original Wizard. Also, I believe that's a Schaller made (Jackson branded) rail pickup those have in the bridge.

heem, I own two Fusions with the original thin Charvel necks and a Ibanez RG570 Japanese with an original Wizard neck.

The Fusion neck is thinner, and faster, and easier to play. Trust me. They're mind blowing :)

Re: Help indetifying some old Japanese Jacksons

I have a 2006 Ibanez RG350, the Indonesian made, my first "real" guitar bought 8 or 9 years ago, I know it's not a high end guitar but it's nice, and has a lovely neck, if the Dinky Reverse I'm planning to buy has a similar or thinner neck it's gonna be awesome. I have a couple Fenders with the vintage V neck, so neck profile isn't a problem to me.

I've never seen one with the "Grover Jackson" thing on the headstock before thats pretty cool!

That's an early 90's thing. Don't remember the exact year, but I'm sure I've seen it as early as 91.
