Help me decide on a new axe.

help me decide on a guitar, I'm selling my les paul special and I want something different, I'm a classic rock guy so keep it in the relm of those styled guitars. I've been lookin at strats and teles the most, and I'd rather get one good one than a cheap tele and strat. Thanks

Re: Help me decide on a new axe.

Well ... since you have the cash if it were me I'd go for a USA Vintage series '62 RI Strat ... but that would be me

Re: Help me decide on a new axe.

Have you considered a Wolfgang Special or a Quilt top Special? Very comfortable. Nice and light but with good sustain. I like the sort of LP shape but with a tremolo when needed. Neck is smooth as butter. The d-tuna works great for on the fly dropped-d tuning. Don't rule out this guitar.

Re: Help me decide on a new axe.

the mim tele is really nice, i dont know ur price budget but i got a mex tele and put in a jd pup and sounds better than almost any other guitar ive ever tried and with the extra cash u can customize it, and its aswome for classic rock

I don't wanna spend more than 600, I've tried a wolfgang and I liked it but its too similiar to a les paul, I'm thinkin like a black MIJ 62' reissue custom tele or some kind of unique looking strat

Re: Help me decide on a new axe.

"Unique looking strat" Just read a glowing review in Nov. Guitar World of a PRS SE EC Single coil. Mahogany body/neck. Very sharp looker. Looks like it's in your price range. Maybe there's a pic at prsguitars.com

Re: Help me decide on a new axe.

ya I saw that, I'm not too crazy about that thing on the back, what is it? And did they make this guitar in black? because if they did I might wait around for one to come up. I saw the auction for gilby clarkes relic 62 in black....sweet

Re: Help me decide on a new axe.

MIJ strats and tele's rock! I have a 92 Fender 62ri Strat and it blew away everything else they had at the store when I bought it (including a 40th anniversary strat). I also have a 90 Fernandez 50's style Tele with a onepiece maple neck and an ash body. It installed a SM-1/Jerry Donahue combo in it and it's aguitar that I take to every gig.

Re: Help me decide on a new axe.

BTW, I got my Strat in MINT condition for $400 w/ case and the Tele for $250 (ding on the side and scratches on the back) also with a case.

Re: Help me decide on a new axe.

I just got a Tele that I'm holding for Norman, and let me tell you they are sweet guitars. I've never really been a tele fan....to plain, no countour in the back for comfort, funny looking headstock. However, the sound it unreal. No wonder so many like them above all other guitars. It sounds sweet even with the stock Fender pups.

I'd go for a good Tele. You can get a really nice used USA Tele for $600. It will cover the bases from Strat to near HB tones with a little extra attitude.

Re: Help me decide on a new axe.

i like teles but i really havent gotten around to playing many. I enjoy hearing the sparkly distortion tones of page in most of zepp's recordings

Re: Help me decide on a new axe.

I've played teles before and I loved how snappy they were under distortion, very defined. I loved the sound, I also love that neck single coil strat tone on the wind cries mary and fire, I haven't played teles enough to kno how well they do that kind of tone. Guys, should I go for the fernandes? It looks like its the older japanese one because it doesn't have the new body shape, I emailed the seller just in case. It ends tomorrow and I'm not sure if I should get it. What do you guys think?

Re: Help me decide on a new axe.

o ya, and why are these fernandes' so cheap? I hear good things about them but the super low price for that guitar and some of the other fernandes 80's strat copies on there leaves me a little skeptical. Are these worth it?

Re: Help me decide on a new axe.

Going from an LP to a Tele would be an ideal transition. You can get new Highway 1 Teles for $600 ($350 if you're lucky at GC), or you could get used MIA Teles. I'd actually go with a Highway 1 because of the 3-barrel bridge, neck, and finish. The MIA are more modern-featured.

Re: Help me decide on a new axe.

i fell inlove with a H1 tele I played, one of the best feeling guitars i ever played

GET IT!!!!! :)

If you don't like it I'll buy it off ya. :burnout:

Put in a good set of pickups (the Fernandez units do blow chunks) and you're set.

Jsut like 80's MIJ Squires, not a lot of people trust the name on the headstock, but word will start to get around, just like on the MIJ Squires.
