One thing is for certain...If that luthier did a great job on that neck, it's far and away better than any stock Fender in that price range. Plus, the pickups and electronics are great. I think Lew is right about Swamp Ash. A couple weeks ago, I got that Schecter Custom Shop Tele that was made by a world class luthier. It's Southern Swamp Ash/rosewood on maple neck. I'm not kidding when I tell you... there's something magic in that guitar. The woods that came together on it, and the impeccable neck are something that just astounds me, everytime I play it...which is often.
On this one on Ebay. The 'new' price for that model was around $500, since it's a California series. They did about $150 worth of work on the neck and put about $150 into the pickups and electronics. I would pay $600, but probably no more than that.
$650 tops.
