High Praise for Fulltone Pedals!!!

Even since they came out in 1995, and I heard an orange Fulldrive II, I've been impressed by almost everything they've ever made. I actually lived a few blocks from his original location, which was his detached garage, turned into a shop with 4 workers. I visited his place to have the orange pedal modded and got to see his nice Fender and Marshall collection. Since then, I've had that orange FDII, a blue FDII, a 69 Fuzz, trem, a Gold Dejavibe, a Choralflange, and now the Clyde Deluxe Wah. I've sold all that stuff except for the Choralflange, but just recieved the Clyde Deluxe Wah a few days ago.
Man, what an awesome wah pedal....the very best. It's true bypass, has a 10 position rotary volume knob, and a 3 way setting for 'Shaft, Jimi, and Whacked. Jimi is the original Vox Clyde Jimi sound. Shaft is a wah that accentuates the higher frequencies for funk, and Whacked accentuates the lows, which is more dramatic for highgain solo tones. BADASS!!!!
Luckily, I got a mint one for $210, rather than paying fullpop at $289.

Who has or has owned Fulltone pedals, and whaddya think?

I really liked the 69 Pedal,but the DP1 was pretty bad...I also really liked the Deluxe Clyde wah when Lew loaned me his..For the price Fuller charges for that wah though,I Like my own modded wahs more...These are the only pedals I've tryed of his...If I was going to own one of his wahs,I'd opt for the regular clyde model and I'd add the extras to it...You got a great price on your wah though buddy...Enjoy!

Only own the Clyde Deluxe Wah and the '69...I think they're the best stock wah wah and best Fuzzface clone I've ever owned.

I plug my Antiquity Surfer Strat into the '69 into the Clyde Deluxe into any of my amps and it's total Jimi Hendrix time! :dance:

(I do like my Vox 847 wah wah's that John modded for me alot too...somedays even more than Fulltone Clyde. )

So Lew, do you think you nail the Jimi tone better by having the fuzz in front of the wah? For some reason, I've always put the wah first, probably because it's always on one end of the pedalboard. Like you, I love the tone of the Surfer neck, T.Rex Mudhoney fuzz, and the Fulltone wah. The only reason I suddenly upgraded my wah was because I found a guy who wanted my Budda, so I sold it to him on the spot.

Oh man that sounds like a perfect wah. It's just too bad I can't swing that much for an effect I don't use that often.

Yeah I always have the wah after the fuzz or overdrive or distortion. I plug my guitar into the OD and the OD into the wah and the wah into the amp.

If I plug the Wah into the OD the Wah effect doesn't seem as pronounced as it should sound...the OD or Fuzz sort of washes the wah effect away.

For about 35 years that's the way I've done it. Guitar into fuzz/OD/Distort and fuzz/OD/Distort into wah.

Unless you buy the "foxrox" buffer and install it in your wah,you'll have no choice other than to plug into the 69 first...Your wah won't work if you plug into the wah first...I put the "foxrox" buffer in one of my wahs and was able to run into the wah first,but I still didn't like the way the fuzz and wah sounded together..I sold the "69" for this reason...Lew is lucky he likes to plug into the fuzz first because if he ran it the other way he'd get high pitched squeeling oscillation everytime he clicked his wah on...This has been a problem ever since fuzz and wahs came out...I Like my wah tones to be vocal and clear and I didn't like the way the fuzz and wah together made the wah sound very vomity and unclear,plus it makes the wah grainey sounding...I Loved the 69 as long as I didn't kick the wah on with it...I found out that I can still very much live without a fuzz pedal...I've only ever used overdrive or distortion pedals and in some cases I can get pretty close with a distortion pedal....The fuzz is cool,but it wasn't really necessary...

Just shows how old you really are Lew! LOL......Listen to the clips on the website and you'll see why I don't like running my wah with a fuzz,especially when the wah isn't output buffered....Sounds like poopy!

I've always run the wah first, but haven't been a big fuzz fan. The Mudhoney made me a fan. Since my wah is on the end of my board, it looks like my only option is to reroute the wiring, while leaving the pedals in their place. I'll check it out tonight.

As far as other Fulltones, the gold Dejavibe is the best vibe pedal I've ever heard. I kinda regret selling it to MRID, although it was the least used pedal on my board.
I'd LOVE to have one of the new Tube tape echoes, but holy crap, the thing cost as much as a used car!!!

John, I thought you said you talked to Mike Fuller and even he advised plugging your guitar into the '69 pedal and then the '69 pedal into the wah and then the wah into the amp?

He did Lew,but I like my wah first in line...Even after I actually fixed the problem by installing the Foxrox buffer into my wah,I hated the way the 69 and the wah sounded together....The fuzz colors the wah tone too much...Sold the 69 and stuck with my tried and true setup I've been using for many years now...Guess I'm not a real fuzz fan as I was weened on overdrives and distortion pedals after your generation! Heck....All you guys had back then were fuzz pedals! Some were really noisy and dismal sounding...LOL We're really lucky today with all the available to us..Actually too much stuff..

I've spent my life oblivious to fuzz pedals, but a few years ago, I started trying to see what they offer. I may record a song that's a fuzzfest, just to see how cool the effect can be, played in the right context.

Hey man, let us know how you like it, it looks pretty cool. I've got a Supa-Trem and it's a killer. I tried it against Voodoo Lab and a couple of others, and it won hands down. The guy makes some sweet stuff (and prices it accordingly). +1 for the tape echo, but <whew>, I don't think I'm ready to shell out a grand for a guitar effect.

Truth be told, I've got about a dozen differant fuzz, overdrive and distortion pedals. TS-9, TS-808, mid 80's Ratt, DS-1, etc. I almost never use any of them! My old 20 watt Fender Deluxe, Deluxe Reverb and '51 Super amps are all tweaked for my tone and touch and I can go from clean to overdrive with the volume control on my guitar and my touch on the guitar. :laugh2:

I'm like Curly: a guitar...a cord...and an amp about 99% of the time.

+1 on the Fulltone stuff.

A lot of guys out there try dis the line, but its probably because they are pushing someone else's gear. The '69 is great, just like the early Hendrix tones. Yes, there are higher gain fuzz face clones out there, but that doesn't make them "better" boxes. The same type of thing goes for the Soulbender and the Clyde. I have been impressed with Fulltone stuff, and have never had a bad experience with Mike on the phone. I do endorse the Lovepedal Eternity, but that's genuine and no other dealer has anything even a little like it.

Mike single handedly raised the bar for tone and construction of pedals. Like Teese, it took years of dedication, and collecting old pedals.

If you have a tweed amp, or a really dynamic, touch sensitive amp, you can get away without pedals, and I feel like you're more directly "connected" to what comes out ... (just IMO, don't shoot me!)

if you play an amp with great cleans, like a BF Fender, or similar, then you most likely want an OD or distortion to push it over the top for solos. The key may be the negative feedback circuit that BFs used to "stabilize" those amps - remember that when they were built, Fender was going for CLEAN. Later, when players started playing louder, they found great tone when those amps were pushed.

I don't play out, so yeah, I can get away with guitar/ cord/ amp a lot of the time, but I still have a bunch of pedals ... I just get a kick out of playing them once in a while, for the heck of it. "Heart Full of Soul" just sounds a lot better with my Soulbender!

As far as the Fulltone's, I have a SoulBender that I got on Ebay, and a custom colored FDII. I posted last week about the new OCD, because I listened to the clips on Mike's site, and they sounded terrific. I planned to get one, then GP came out in the current issue with a distortion pedal shootout, and gave the OCD and Editor's Pick. I put my order in, cause I wanted to avoid the stampede D) so I should have one next week.

Lew...I can't cover the many tunes our band plays when we play out,with just a fuzz pedal....LOL....

We do 60's 70's 80's and even some alternative stuff....And blues...LOL...I need versatility brother...
