Higher Wattage Greenbacks?

I want to get a cabinet with Greenbacks, as I love the voicing, but I want to get a 2x12 for this... unfortunately, my current head and any other heads I'd really be interested in are 100W, which doesn't fly with 2x12 25W speakers.

Has Celestion ever made an accurate Greenback replica with higher wattage, or am I SOL?

Re: Higher Wattage Greenbacks?

you are indeed SOL if you buy a Celestion...email Ted Weber he can custom build you a greenback clone with up to (I belive) a 65 watt voice coil) now relize with a higher wattage voice coil you will loose a tiny bit of top end. You could also look into Scumbacks (which are madew with Weber VST built frames, magnets, and voice coils) but they cost around $170 each! ANother idea is the Eminence...it's close, not exact but close and is rated at around 70 watts I belive.

Re: Higher Wattage Greenbacks?

As I was reading TGWIF's post, I was thinking to myself, someone clones them with a higher rating, then boom, as he said Eminence.

Re: Higher Wattage Greenbacks?

Ya know...I forgot the famed G12-65, yoiu can find some originals as well as the new heritage series Celestion but they ain't cheep!

Good thing you caught that.....gave me that false sense of security thinking that I knew something you didn't :D

But they sound great:)

Oh HELL YEAH THEY DO !!! :bigok:

Got a pair from '81/'82 in a Port City Wave 2x12 & MAN, are they sweet sweet SWEET !!!!!!

Re: Higher Wattage Greenbacks?

The eminence private jack is supposed to be based off of the greenback, those are rated at 50 watts.

Re: Higher Wattage Greenbacks?

Yeah, I think the G12-65s are catching on....I got my pair from Kevlar for $200.00 :D

Re: Higher Wattage Greenbacks?

65s and a 2204 (JMP or 800) are a thing of beauty :bigthumb:

..and 65s will get you that less dark, more "open 3D" greenback type sound moreso than anything else besides the greenbacks proper.

I was also gonna say eminence prolly has something..easier to find, and less expensive than 65s too.

Re: Higher Wattage Greenbacks?

A friend of mine told me recently that Celestion is doing one of it's classic speakers in a higher wattage. I can't remember if it was the greenback, but it may have been. I'll ask him tonight and post back...

Re: Higher Wattage Greenbacks?

Just get the 4 12 and be done with it. 4 25W greenbacks are to die for!!!!!

More than likely you're thinking of the Blue (15 watts) which was recently done as the Gold (50 watts)

Re: Higher Wattage Greenbacks?

It'd be for metal, of course. I've tried them, though, with a few amps. The 4x12 they were in didn't fart out at all, maybe I got lucky?
