how do i properly set up a guitar?

i'm tired of hearng fret buzz on my guitar. at first, i didn't mind it at all; but now, i can't stand it. i don't want to send it to get set up because i'm cheap. it is wierd how my schecter buzzes while my squire doesn't, yet the strings look very similar in height. i would like to optimize tone, sustain, and feel.

maybe this thread can head to the vault if a similar one is not there yet. please help.

has ALL the info you need, and if it still buzzes afterwards, take it in and get the frets leveled out.

(buy a set of feeler gauges at autozone or something for $3, a necessary tool for checking the clearances, you will need it).

It will give you the basic steps to go through.

Is it your bridge that is buzzing or the strings on the frets?
