They are horrible with a vibrato equipped guitar, plus the deep E seems to rattle....prolly a roundcore hence the ratteling.

Serio? You can't dig the 9's?

I could do 9's, but that means setting up guitars (floyds), truss rods, intonation, and why pay the prices for elixir if it isn't even what you want? There are strings out there for a lot less that work just as well and are in the gauge I want.

It is just like me asking "Seriously? You pay at least $12 on a pack of strings and you take them off right away? Can't you just play them?" Different strokes for different folks.

I've gotten Elixir strings to last a week, and I've gotten them to last a year. I was playing the first set 3+ hours a day in a sweaty environment, thus them only lasting a week. I don't like them personally.

First of all, my comment was facetious. I was making a sarcastic joke about how I dislike Elixers. And FWIW, no, I didn't throw them away after 10 minutes. It was probably six months, because I'm a cheap bastard when it comes to strings. And that was back in 2001.

Second of all, it isn't the same. It's a minor difference in gauge, not a completely different type of string.

I was just trying to crack a joke on the one hand, and on the other, help you realize that there are 9's, in case you didn't know. If you have a problem with that, you can go blow it out your ass.

i hear people bitc* about the price, but when you think of just how much longer they last than anything else, it pays off x10. if i had known elixirs lasted SO MUCH longer than D'ad's or DR's i would have switched years ago. i get my elixirs for about 10 bucks a set. they cost twice as much as the next best string, but last over 10x longer. it's a no brainer.

the only reason i could ever see to use cheaper strings is the tension. elixirs have a much higher tension, but that just makes my hands stronger.

i use 9-46's for standard tuning and drop D. i like the heavier wound strings vs 9-42.

First, I've got to say that I live right near the beach so there's a lot of salt in the air here. I used Elixirs for a very long time with the theory that in this environment they might help me keep string costs under control. What I found was that the wound strings lasted for a very long time but the unwound strings didn't have very much more longevity than any of the much less expensive non coated sets I was originally using so my experience was that the added expense for the Elixirs wasn't really saving me much at all. What it comes down to is that I've found that I get about the same amount of play time on average by paying for a 10 pack of Di Adarrios at $4 a set =$40 and doing 3 changes = $12 as I get buying Elixirs at $16 per set and doing 2 changes = $32. And, with the added benefit that for my $40 I've still got 7 sets of Di Addarios left. IMHO, the math just doesn't balance out for the Elixirs.

i never have any problems with the unwound strings in a 80-100% humidity environment.... and salt doesnt evaporate.

Just shut up. No I don't want the 9s, I know they exist, I'm not an idiot! If I want to use 8s, I'll use f**king 8s dammit. You missed my point entirely, which was "I don't use them because they don't have what I want, and to say 'Oh can't you just use this (when you said to use 9ss) instead' is foolish".

And HOW the hell was I supposed to know that it was in 2001, really 6 months, and that you were joking? You have no right to be a dick to me for just taking what you said as true, with no indication it was a joke.

You always are critical of me specifically, and speak to me in a condescending manner. I will not tolerate this AT ALL. I don't result to being disrespectful to you, all I ask is you do the same to me (ex: not telling me to "blow it out your ass".)
