I have 5 total:

Washburn Acoustic
Fender Squire Strat (unplayable so it's a wall hanger for now)
Ibanez-S Series
Epiphone Les Paul Jr.
Epiphone Les Paul Custom (my main guitar)

I'm at 12 instruments total. That includes 10 electric, 1 acoustic, and 1 bass.

I did start the year with 13 but I did a massive overhaul of my gear this year and sold/traded off a bunch and bought new stuff that better suits my current tastes.

I could definitely sell off a couple more and be fine. But I don't want to. Also three of the guitars I have are very specific to the type of band I'm in. As "Keith" in a Stones tribute there's some guitars that serve that aesthetic and sound. The 52 Tele in open G - a yellow LP Jr DC - a white Music Man Silhouette HSH.

But I am at a point where I do not want to increase the number that I have. I'm on a "one-in, one-out" rule. Not imposed by my wife or anything like that, but it's something I've applied to myself to keep my "collection" in check. I found once I was above 12 I really started to feel like the collection was a weight on me rather than something I enjoyed. Plus the amount of time I have to spend maintaining them all - string changes, setup tweaks, seasonal adjustments - it's kind of time consuming which I would rather spend on playing. So if I've got GAS for something, I have to sit here and take a long hard stare at the guitars hanging on my wall to decide which of them would go.

I only need my :

Koa bich (drop C tuning)
sunburst LP with PAFs
purpleburst LP with modern pickups
Thinline Tele with widerange pickups
52 style tele with singlecoils
Iron Maiden strat
natural strat with singlecoils.

The rest is luxury.

You give up too easily...

I 'need' three guitars:
- a nice acoustic
- a semi-hollow with low output humbuckers
- a guitar with a trem and single coils

Everything after that is nice to have, but really surplus. Think I'm up to 9 total at this point.

You need at least 2 acoustics minimum.

Nope.

Just one nice acoustic. I need two electric guitars because I don't gig without a backup . . . and if I'm gonna have two of them, I might as well have them be the two best flavours of guitar. :P

I'm with ya, only I'm at 8, and one of "them" is a Bass.
My 3 main guitars that I use are exactly those 3 lol

Yeah, I def need a semi-hollow and a SSS or HSS with trem.

I honestly don't even know. Maybe somewhere around 30. That's counting electrics, basses, and acoustics.

The purple one broke.

5 Electrics, 1 Acoustic. I have two electrics that are torn down, but not really worth assembling. One really needs a new neck and the other is a cheap Hamer import with Duncan Designed pickups that probably isn’t worth much.

I'm in the 30-something group. But many of my guitars are flea-market finds or given to me by friends who didn't had one around and didn't play, or gave up. I like having them so I can experiment with different wiring schemes. I like to try something before I tell a customer, (or a forum bro), to try it. But I'm starting to "dial-in" to the keepers. This next year there will be some spring cleaning.
