Hi guys,
As some of you know, I usually look at the classifieds for interesting deals. This time a found a 2012 Gibson Les Paul 50's tribute for 520CHF (let's say 1CHF = 1USD). Locally it sold new for 770-900CHF with a bag.
If it's all original, then it should have 490R/498T pickups, which some claim to be EQ unbalanced, but I've played them before I didn't find them bad in other guitars. My only two concerns are that the back is scratched (see pictures), which is only aesthetical and since it's in the back it's virtually invisible; and that the fretboard is made of baked maple, can someone confirm this? I saw it on the Gibson site, so most likely it is like that (http://www.gibson.com/Products/Electric-Guitars/Les-Paul/Gibson-USA/Les-Paul-Studio-50s-Tribute-Humbucker.aspx)
The ad says the following:
"Gorgeous Gibson Les Paul Studio 50s Tribute. Fully functional. Pots and switches work perfectly. Was recently re-adjusted, new strings mounted, fingerboard oiled. Serial number 122121542, year of construction 2012, Made in the USA. Cash, must be picked up, no shipping, no guarantee, can be played. Usual traces of use (see photos)"
I asked about the final price and he said 500bucks, no less. Then I asked if the had a bag, documents, TR key, etc. And he said that he has nothing else with the guitar because he bought used in 2016; then he lowered the price to 480bucks.
I was thinking of offering 400CHF and take it up to max 450CHF with some negotiation. Not long ago I bought a 2016 LP Studio Faded with a custom paint job, bag, documents and even a free set of strings and a gibson care pack for 500CHF https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?324919-NGD-%96-My-first-Gibson-Les-Paul!&p=4161746#post4161746. I know I probably got lucky on that one, but I also bought a 2010 SG for 400CHF https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?326504-NGD-%96-Gibson-SG-WOW. So 480CHF seems a bit steep for what I'm actually getting.
What do you think?
Cheers,
Walter
