well my duncan antiquity 2 strat pickup doesnt work for some reason. i have a choice. i can send it back to the SD company so that they can try and fix the problem, or i can get it replaced. not sure how much it would cost to get it fixed, but a replacement would be probably around 80 U.S. dollars. what should i do?

Re: how should i invest my money?

would you care to tell us more about how it went from 'working' to 'not working' ? ... this might shed insight that would focus our advice on diagnosing the source of problem and recommending a path forward .. i'd be happy to help offer my knowledge and experience, but as it is, i couldnt begin to help ..

fill us in and we'll let you know

well i broguht it into the shop (Bill's) and they called me and just told me straight up, it wasnt working. i dont have any kind of machine to test it or anything, and it is not attached to my pickguard. apparently one of the others wasnt working either but the guy somehow fixed that one.

Re: how should i invest my money?

hmmm .. if they told you that the pup was toast, then i guess there isnt much you can do ... unless you want to do a little open heart surgery to see if it's repairable ... if you liked how it sounded before it broke, then i guess you could save yourself a little dough by looking into SD repairing it ...

you could ask them if they measured the DC resistance of the broken pup ... if it was 'infinite' you 'might' be able to get it fixed if you can easily locate the break in the signal path and reattach it ... if it is 'zero', i'd bet there'd be no practical way for you to find the short, let alone repair it ...

wish i could help more than this ....

good luck

ps - you live close to Bill's eh? ... so do i ... did i know this? .. damn, it suck to get old :D

Re: how should i invest my money?

Ronny there is pretty good and knows what he's talking about, but did they not say anything about why it wasn't working, or how it stopped?

I assume you and they both looked at the wiring, and everything's in shape there, right?

I'd test it with your voltmeter too. It's pretty rare that a pickup just stops working, but I guess it can happen.

Re: how should i invest my money?

im starting to think its too much trouble to do all this. i have the money, but i want it to be finished so i can play my new guitar plugged in. i think ill just replace it.

Re: how should i invest my money?

on the blackronse and lew guitars sites they dont list the antiquity 2's. how long would they take to get them/ where would be the best place?
