How well does a floyd equiped guitar stay in tune?
Never owned any wondering how well it stays in tune? I would imagine it never has to be tuned after the strings stretch.

If you get an original floyd or schaller they'll stay in tune no problem. Some of the knock off cheaper floyd copies won't do as good.

with a good set up, stretched strings and QUALITY equipment, it stays in tune till the strings start dying

Ditto. They seem to stay in tune better than any guitar I have. The Les Paul always needs to be retuned whenever I pick it up. I use Floyd guitars not for the whammy effect but to lock the strings in tune since I do extreme string bends.

Re: How well does a Floyd guitar stay in tune?

My Satriani and ESP never go out of tune. The ESP has an OFR whilst the Satriani has a Ibanez Pro Edge bridge, or something along those lines. Some knock offs work just as well as OFRs. I too love floyds not because of whammy tricks, but their stability. You can always blcok off the floyd too.

Re: How well does a Floyd guitar stay in tune?

I have more trouble keeping my non-floyd guitars in tune than the floyd guitars. It's always been the case even with the cheaper licensed floyd trems ala Ibanez and licensed ones on either ESP/LTD and cheaper Jacksons and BC Rich. Don't be afraid of the trem! The only thing that makes fixed bridges better is down tuning. It's a real hassle to down tune a Floyd. Not that it won't do it but it cannot be done on the fly. But as far as stability of tuning, I always had trouble keeping my Les Pauls in tune as do I have trouble keeping my Mockingbird in tune. The G string on both my Les Pauls always went out and had to be retuned everytime i picked it up. My mockingbir not so much but it still does go out a bit. My Bich has no issues with tuning.

I could drop a bombshell into my Ibanez and it would stay in tune. :)

Re: How well does a Floyd guitar stay in tune?

ya for sure i agree that the Original Floyd Rose or the Schaller version do stay in tune amazingly.... My imported Jacksons with cheaper Floyd knock offs go out of tune easier but still they are pretty solid after i up graded the floyd posts and on one of them i changed to a better quality FRO nut... On one of my Jacksons i can really hammer the hell out of the bar like the ending to Hendrix's 3rd Stone and it will stay in tune.... but even then when you are abusing the bar that hard even my Jacksons will not stay in tune 100%.. Fine adjustsments maybe needed.

I still wish to get a guitar from Warmoth parts built for a FRO..... great units! MY strat that i have a FRO on is a POS guitar with a great bridge!

Unlike the others in this thread...

My licensed floyd on my BC rich saw some horrible abuse no guitar ever should. Once the strings were streched, they stayed in tune for 5 months, till I had to restring. I mean perfect tune!

Re: How well does a Floyd guitar stay in tune?

The POS Licensed FR in my V-250 is holding up VERY well. I have to change the fine-tuners every once in a while but that's because the temperature varies a lot and I just do like a 1/4 turn.

Keep in mind, I've had these strings on here for over 6 months.

Re: How well does a Floyd guitar stay in tune?

I have a new Dean that has a lower model floyd. It works perfectly.

Re: How well does a Floyd guitar stay in tune?

I have 2 OFR's 2 Ibanez Edge and 3 Kahlers right now, the OFR and Edge, once set up properly and the strings are settled, I can beat on the bar, total slack dive-bombs, radical pull-ups and string bends galore and they will not go out of tune.

I highly recomend them. I stay away from Schallers and any copy other than the Edge/Lo-Pro Edge.

Re: How well does a Floyd guitar stay in tune?

i have a floyd knock-off on my jackson and i can usually go about a week or so with dives and all the fun without tuning it

Re: How well does a Floyd guitar stay in tune?

I used to have one of the cheapest RGs Ibanez makes and although a floyd takes more time to set up and change strings it does hold tuning very well.

I'll add that they stay in tune better than a hardtail. It seems that they are less affected by weather conditions that can make a hardtail go flat or sharp -- it might be that the springs on a floating Floyd automatically counteract the changes and keep everything in tune.

Re: How well does a Floyd guitar stay in tune?

assuming that the guitar in question has a solid neck and then making sure that the floyd is set up 100% perfect a floyd will stay in tune as well (if not better) than a hardtail after you stretch the strings out.

However, a guitar with a neck made from junky wood and/or a guitar with a floyd that is not set up correctly will be a HUGE pain in the neck!

All that said, they still kill the tone of a guitar!

Re: How well does a Floyd guitar stay in tune?

the ibanez guitars wont get out off tune and the if you are looking for a floyd equiped guitar but the floyd isnt the original just set it right and it wont bother you for a long time... but be carefull coz the cheap floyds get worn and thats when the problems begin.
i recomend you to look for schaller, original floyd rose or the ibanez edge, lo-pro or edge pro. this ones dont get out of tune.
