Humbucker recommendations

Re: Humbucker recommendations

Having the option of a neck pickup, why worry about cleans from the bridge pickup at all?

Out of all the humbuckers I've tried in the bridge position, I've honestly never had a single bridge pickup that made me want to use it for cleans over the neck or middle positions. Not even the '59, Slash, PAF Pro, or other vintage-output bridge pickups. They've all been super brash.

That's too bad. :(

FWIW, I wouldn't classify PAF Pro as vintage output, and it is definitely not vintage in its voicing. For the bridge position it's utter garbage; there are so many better choices, IMHO.

To be a bit more constructive, the Custom Custom and 59/Custom Hybrid are more than capable of great clean tones in the bridge position. I would need some serious convincing to classify them as good for thrash, however. Not that I would ever use a PAF Pro in the bridge for thrash, either. ;)

^ These 2.
But, if you cover many types of music (and play clean-ish most of the time), a great clean sounding bridge humbucker is a wonderful thing.

Re: Humbucker recommendations

Anybody here know of a good pickup set for playing classic thrash metal that doesn't completely destroy your cleans?

Lace Dissonant Aggressor, sounds great for metal, rock, etc. Great cleans, sounds cool split also (not thin), neck pickup doesn't get muddy with gain. I almost forgot, extremely clear sounding pickups.
