I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

ALRIGHT!

I have thought about your responses.

I will NOT get the John Sykes model.

1. A new Custom with the new pickups etc would run me less.

2. If I can get one, there is atleast a 3month shipping time on the John Sykes.

3. To gig with a 6500dollar guitar is a bit of a hasle to me.

4. I am beginning to love a Vintage Sunburst Classic or Ebony Standard 60 as much.

Guess you guys were right.

Hell for the price of the Sykes, I can get a 100watt 2203 JCM800 Reissue and a Standard 60 and that has been a dream combo of mine ever since I first heard Rainbow In The Dark.

I am sorry I didnt listen, and thanks alot for helping a stupid kid like me out.... Excuse my swearing, but how the **** could I think of giving that much for a guitar?

Plus this clip with Vivian was all I needed, you can look quite cool with a Standard.

*breathes a sigh of relief*

Dude... we all make mistakes, at least you changed your mind and before making a REALLY big one. Good one on ya.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!

One condition! You have to call me tomorrow at this time. Deal? :)

And thanks bros... I am gassing for this Sykes one still.. MAybe I will get one when I am 40 and have a ugly wife and 2 kids? :D (No offence to 40 year olds ) ;)

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Sykes original was just a Custom model anyways... a new Custom model and some slight mods should do the trick

Yup...

But I think a Standard is what I am getting.

I can get a JCM800 2203 head AND finish my pedal board with quality stuff for the price of the Sykes. :)

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Standards are fine LP's... i've been thinking of trading in some goods to get a new Standard from time to time....

that JCM800 will be insanely loud... i have a 2204 50 watt Marshall and i never have any use for it around my house... it's just a gigging and jamming amp where i need volume... Marshalls are insanely loud amps.... make sure you can really use that much amp... even gigging in clubs soundmen hated my 5150 halfstack with the volume on 3 or 4....

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Well, the loudness aint a problem really. Unless I am playing big places, i dont really mic up the amp.

Plus the unique sound of a JCM800 is something I want to have :D I will use my JCM2000 as a back up then.

The only thing, after the Standards have become chambered, do they still sound good and like a Les Paul or are they crap?

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

the newer chambered LP's bug me a little bit as i don't dig light LP's.... must be because i'm used to my 76 Deluxe.... It has often been said my LP is one of the heaviest many techs have had on their bench.... That being said the chamber may add a nice tone to the guitar.... it will change the way it sounds for sure.. it could be for the better.... then again it depends who you ask... me myself like them heavy...

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Whenever I ponder a more expensive guitar, I remind myself that Lew's favorite axe is a MIJ strat with a Pearly Gates and a Custom.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Yeah or Rids main axe is a Kramer Pacer Deluxe he found for 500dollars... And my old MIM Standard Strat.

But that chambering, how will that make the guitar work for a old school 70s early 80s heavy metal sound? I know les pauls were used alot back then with their thick middy sound.

IMO,

krap.

The new chambered LP's I've played sounded VERY different then a regular old Les Paul...

Not much LP vibe there. Closer to a 335... like a chinco 335 knock-off.

They don't weigh enough either.

Seriously, I picked up three or four new new LP Studio dlx and was shocked to find that they weighed as much/little as my Strats. Maybe 7-8 pounds?

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Even though it's likely that the SDF was, in part, the culprit - this may be the single best thing we have ever done.

Vault vote!

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Well I'm not one who thinks that would have been a massive mistake. It'll be worth 10+ times more in 50 years.

That said, would you still have had it in 50 years? Big concern.

Also, you can do so much more with that money right now, like everyone else has beat to death.

I'm glad you aren't getting it, the amp and a standard will serve you better, for now. But don't rule it out, it's a good investment.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Axl,

That was a great decision.

As for a guitar purchase - I say, find a good used Les Paul... I do think that considering your preference an Ebony fingerboard should be part of the guitar.

If you'll ever want to give us another forum scare, you would probably feel better with putting a Kahler on this one then on a $6500 guitar - if you'll want to go all 80's metal on the guitar... ;)

And with the cash you'll still have - you can spoil it with custom shop pickups...

Edit:
+1 on Rainmaker's post.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Hehehe no Kahler on this one.

I have trems on all of my guitars, now I just want something without it :D

And about buying used...I might be have to do it, but I aint crazed with the idea, as the plan was to get a 100% new guitar, which I will wear in etc.

Oh well, if they dont sound good though :(

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

awesome that you decided not to buy it.
seemed like a horrible waste of money.

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

I dont care for the chambered bodies.. My studio is the last year made before chambering..
My most "beastly, infinately sustaining, packing a whallup" LP (clone) is an 80s Burney that weighs about 12 lbs. Back breaker yeah, but its already got a note ringing when I turn it on...

Re: I am about to order my new Les Paul..

Good thing you did not do that. Now you can get your dream and AMP your dream guitar! Good luck with this whole ordeal
