Sure, I'm on a Power Trip. Step aside 200 Watt Marshall major, look out 200 Watt Hiwatt P.A. Today I brought home the Godzilla of tube Power amps, the Peavey Stereo 120. Thats 240 Watts RMS right there Mono kids. Does the word headroom mean anything to you, and no, Im not talking about the room aty trhe ed fo the hall at the Chinese massage Parlor.
I visited three pawnshops today in San Antoni, on the thrid one, I struck gold. 250.00 out the door, and I made tem give me a 6 month warranty ( for store credit). It was socked away on the ground under a bunch of junk and my eagle eyey sp[otted it, it had been there two months , and so I wheeled and dealed, and this thing is clean clean clean!
Now, since I'm on a power trip, heres what I'm going to do. I'm going to find me another Stero 120, and run them both in Mono. That'll be 480 watts RMS of all tube power!
Have you ever noticed the cleansd are so beautiful on your gnice guitar when you turn the amp aboput 1/2 way up and turnm the guitar down to 1 or 3 volume- THATS headroom, and Ill be able t get that same thing, ut at a lot hiogher volume, thank you very much.
I was soon to be planning to get a high gain amp, but now I ma looking for a good High gain Pre-amp! Thats another thread.

Re: I AM THE MOST POWERFULL MAN ON THE FORUM!

Right now I'm running my power amp in stereo at 375 watts per side. Well, I guess that's what it would be if I cranked it all of the way up. I only keep it up almost half way.

How can I put this delctaley, so as not to hurt your feeling. These are all tube watts, yours are crummy solid state watts.

How can I put this delicately, so to not hurt your feelings. It doesn't matter because I can play the guitar and you can't. I sound good when I play the guitar and you do not. You could play through anyone in the world's rig, and I would still sound better than you while I played through my little Blackstar HT-5.

I know that's right!

Re: I AM THE MOST POWERFULL MAN ON THE FORUM!

Yeah but it's a Peavey.

Yes, "only" a peavey, but check this weight on the unit..It weighs a quarter ton! hows 55 pounds grab ya?;

I'm not worried that the transformers aren't as gigantic as the Hammonds on my old Traynor Bassmaster; the smaller Iron will give more of a good guitar tone when pushed with a good preamp,as opposed to something with Massive Transformers that would never get any good tube power amp distortion with that much wattage.
Now, what pre-amp? Mesa? Engl?

Also, FWIW it's delicacy not delctaley.

delicacy is dish

delicately is what he meant

if you must correct him be correct

congrats Jer
Yea I was just thinking thats a power amp
like they use for PA systems

I plug into my Carvin Bass amp and it bridges at 600 watts
it has a preamp tube
does that count?

Actually delicacy is a word used to describe a dish...

Jolly is right...this thread is awesome!

Re: I AM THE MOST POWERFULL MAN ON THE FORUM!

Great point...I always listen for the weight of an amp when I'm listening.

Well, if I picked up Jollys high Current solid state amp, its probably go about 12 pounds.I think there is a correlation between weight and good sound.I hope Jolly doesnt misundersand me, of course he could make that amp of his sound good. This is not about that really.

There were some famous controversial ( in the audiofile/hi-fi world) studies done with audio amps, where the amp section itself, all things being equal, has no listener discernable tone wahtsoever, but thats HI-fi. So the Pre-amp section is what voices the tone.; IDK.

Edwhuld- thats a great Bass amp , and I'm sure the preamp tube has a good effect in the circuit, but mine is a guitar amp. The Stereo 120 is a out of production guitar Power amp. I don't think they even really make those anymore too much- Marshall had the Power amps for awhile , Mesa too , and Peavey. I think Engl might make one now; the two fifty two?

What you are hearing is the crack of his back trying to lift said amps while trying to be badass and show off. Now he has to be "powerfull" enough to lift all of that, especially if he wants two of them. Moar whatz = moar beturr
