I finally bought a "real" strat!

Happened into a music store in Phoenix, picked up a blonde '95 Mexican-made Fender "50th Anniversary" strat with 3 single coils (for $349). Had to get it. And here I was sort of saving up for a Light Ash strat (the one with the Seymour Duncan pups). This is my first "real" strat - all my previous so-called strats have had humbuckers in the bridge. I don't know if I got a sweet deal or not, but I think I morphed into Richie Blackmore for a minute or two when I started playing it in the store, so I had to go with it. Anyone know more about the model? I realize it's not an American, but my gut reaction was to not let it go. It feels and looks very vintage, unlike the Light Ash line, which to me looks very modern and unvintage (but nice nonetheless).

I'm not much of a Strat genius, but that sounds like a good deal to me, especially for a 50th Anniversary.....Mexican or not. Congrats man!!

Now that I think about it, there's not too many guitars I like for $300-$350, but I always search within that price range, go figure. Mabye the Carvin bolt kit is a good one.

Not a 95' its a 96'. I have the same model. Great guitar. I bought mine new in 97'. At that time they were $500 where as standard MIM strats today are $350. I kept the stock single coils in mine until last year, now its got a JB in the bridge and a coil tap, no other pickups.

Still my favorite guitar!

96' was FENDER'S 50th anniversary.

2004 was The Stratocasters 50th anniversary.

Great info. I appreciate it. I noticed all the Harmony Central reviewers' guitars had rosewood fingerboards though - mine's got maple. They probably made a few versions with various body colors and fingerboards I'm guessing.

I went to my favorite place - Central Music/Music Brokers on Central and Camelback (not the sheet music store, the pawn/music shop). Cool dudes working in there (the two younger dudes), always nice to me, and seem to know their guitars really well. They don't sugar coat everything, and tell it like it is, and even steered me away from a number of their more expensive guitars. The owner is pretty cool too, but a little less gregarious. I always find something in there that catches my eye.

Cool, I agree they've often got some really cool stuff. I picked up an ADA MP1 from there for practically nothing a few years back :)
