I had to let an old friend go today…

Today I sold that LTD ec-1000 that’s been in my avatar for so long.
I’ve had this guitar for 6 years and it served me well and I cared for it pretty well too. It didn’t even have a scratch on it (the guy who bought it couldn’t believe it was used), even though I played a lot of shows and it was my main guitar for 5 good years.

Sadly, it had come to a point where I played my two les pauls more and more and this one saw little use in the last year. Add the fact that I have a new guitar coming in the mail this week: it was time to let her go.

This one was of the first generation of these deluxe LTDs and the market got flooded with new colors and so on since then. Took a hit (they were 1800$ [cdn] at the time around here [although I did buy it in the states and it ended-up costing me 1200$ in reality], with the Cdn$ being lower compared to U.S. and, well, they were the newest LTD line back in 2003) but it’s all good considering its age and the fact that Korean guitars can only lose value with time.

I always try not to get attached to instruments but I still get a little sad when I let one go.

I’ll post pics of the new one as soon as it gets here but I’m not telling what it is yet.

Guess it’ll be time to change my avatar huh?

Yeah, the avatar will need to be changed.

Sucks you fell out of love with the guitar, but it's good you got something you love coming your way. Hopefully it will serve you just as well.

I have a very hard time selling any of my guitars....... but I never seem to have any trouble adding more to the collection:bling:

I have an EC1000 up on ebay right now that i've had sine 03. Just sold my Gibby Explorer on ebay and will likely get an ESP Eclipse so there's no point in keeping the EC1K. Can't even get a sniff on it though in the week or so i've had it up. I have it up for $800 and that includes shipping, insurance, hard case, and an extra JB humbucker.

What did you get for yours?

So as the owner of a "few" guitars I got to ask , did you have to sell or you just wanted to? I would have kept it just because of the history and the availability to pull it out and enjoy it on occasion. But that' s just me.

Enjoy the new one.

I didn't really fall out of love with it (or maybe), it's more a matter of learning to appreciate the other ones a bit more. I enjoy the little bit of extra nut width of the gibsons, the tone's different too, not better but different and I've grown to enjoy it.

Me too but there's a point where I can't see myself buying more if I'm not going to play the other ones... I have 4 electrics at the moment and that seems to be enough (for now). 2 LP + the EC was a bit overkill in the Lp-type department. I just got rid of the one that I didn't feel like playing as much anymore. Now I've got space for different things... ;)

Mine's been hard to sell also but I'm back up north in a little town as opposed to Quebec-city where I lived for the last 10 years. I tried selling it for 875$ (keep in mind these were 1800$ bucks back then) in order to get something close to 800$ (including an ESP molded case) but that never took up here with such a little potential-buyer pool. Lowered it to 800$ without succes. After a month I went to "make me an offer I can't refuse" and got offered 650$. Pretty low but considering that folks see them all day long for 700$ on the bay (even though you'd have to add shipping and custom fees but hey...) that wasn't that bad. It pays for approx. 65% of my new acquisition.

Well, as stated above, I didn't have to sell it but I don't feel that keeping guitars that I won't play as being something good. I'd rather sell it to finance something else than have it sit there unused... still, I do feel a little something for letting it go but this will come to pass. I haven't set any limit of guitars to myself but having 7 (3 acoustics and 4 electrics) is pretty good and I can't shell out too much money for guitar-related stuff right now, we're in our first house since march and still have so much to pay for that I can't really just start paying a few Ks just for the fun of it... I'm blessed with a great new job and so is my lady but I have to be a bit reasonable and not push it too far.

That's kinda what i'm doing.......selling off some of my mid-upper range stuff to get a a couple of really nice things. By the time the holidays are over i'll hopefully have gotten rid of 3 guitars (2 will have been sold by this weekend) and my Line6 HD147 head and ending up with an ESP Eclipse and a Dual Rectifier head.

Good luck with your sale bro!

I would have had some trouble letting that go. Can't wait to see what justified the trade.

The binding really makes it for me. So sorry for your loss, but I guess the tree must shave the branches that it doesn't really use. Make room for more.

Yep, it was a nice looking and playing one. I still only have nothing but good things to say about these LTDs. They are great guitars for the price and, if I didn't really feel the need to justify having so many guitars and owning some that I rarely played, would still own this one. Now someone else will have the pleasure of owning and playing that thing. He seemed like a nice guy so I dearly hope he gets lots of years of fun with it. I'm having just as much (if not more) fun with the LP classic that's now in my avatar and my custom (and hopefully the treat that's waiting for me at the post-office tonight). It's all good, it was my decision and I'm fine with it. You need to be rationale sometimes and, as was nicely said, make room for new branches that will be more useful.

Out with the old, in with the new. It served it's purpose, and it sounds like you'll be doing good in coming years, so forget about it.

Now, you can own a few killer guitars and be perfectly happy with those. Just choose some that really speak to you......it's always funner to acquire an awesome new axe than worry about ones that went on the chopping block.

I've mostly been playing my ES-335, PRS McCarty, and a strat with Surfers. Before that, it was usually a LP and strat.

It's always fun to mix it up, provided you're picking from about 5 or 6 of the best guitars you've ever owned.
