the 60 supposedly (if their site is beliveable) has a huge mid spike and is very articulate. i dont know though. i dont trust webpage sound samples, i got to hear the pup from a 3rd party user, like from a forum member or something

I always do the same.
too much effect or too much perfect amp, perfect guitar, =perfect sound ocmbination

He probably wasn't having a good day. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but even still he didn't show the professionalism you'd expect to come from a person that is representing the quality of customer service from EMG (or lack therof).

i have email seymour duncan a few times and althoguh i got a response a few days later they did answer my questions and this is when i was a pick up noob and knew nothing about even playing the guitar let alone hardware issues. Great service duncan has indeed and very helpfull!!!! EMG..hmmm i guess they have never taken a marketing class otherwsie they would know better than to be full of crap....

Sorry WFD, but this is probably true. Bear in mind these guys have to read this type of stuff all day long. He probably thought it was some kid bragging about his gear and questioning too many of EMG's methods or ways of doing things. It showed through his tongue-in-cheek responses.

Well, Now keep in mind... i always email pickupcompanies, bands and studios, asking about the gear used to record some cds that i bought and LIKED it....
the commonanswers to my emails, are, what kind of guitar, wood etc that i have....
i thought that way when i described teh equipo i used.
that may explain why i wrote too muchstuff.
but that´s ok.
anyway i dislike the wya it answered my email and will not email emg back.
I HOPE SO.

I wouldn't do that. I have dealt with Rick by phone and by e-mail.. He has always been polite and detailed with his answers. He has helped me out with spare parts as well. Don't throw away something based on one incident. I realize that no one gets a second chance to make a first impression and your initial impression of him isn't very good right now. I can understand; but give him another chance. If you're going to use EMG's, he'll be your support link. He's been with them a long time and really knows what he's doing...

OK here we go, i have a self made duncan distortion that at this time i LOVE but will the 81 be even more of that type of thing which is very aggressive,tight,clear?

BTW, i felt from what the tech said at EMG, he needs to be replaced by someone who actually likes thier job!

not if you plan to play anything clean i loved the 81s hi-gain stuff, but its not really what i play. i traded mine out.

stick with passive stuff if you want versatility, IMO...
