I need opinions about the Bogner Ecstasy 101B!

Well, the time has come, and i'm thinking about buying a good quality, "real" amp. The Bogner Ecstasy 101B seems great, but i'd like to collect some opinions and reviews!

So, help a poor frozen viking!

Well, that was a nice bump!

I have the money, but i'd feel really bad about buying it though, since it costs about two-three times as much here in norway compared to US prices.

I migth even buy one from the US and pop a 230V\50HZ power supply in there though. Blah blah blah.

That said....The 101B is the best channel switching EL-34 amp that has ever been made, or will ever be made. It's basically the entire history of Marshall in one box.

At your age...I say don't get it unless you are willing to buy insurance for the lifespan of the amp, or are in an area that does not have much/any crime for the lifetime of the amp

(i.e. get a cheaper amp since ish gets stolen and bills need to get paid)

Bogner owns and if you love Marshalls and want the ability to tweak just about any one you want, you'll love the XTC. If you like compression, you'll dig the 101b, if you want a much more open sound, the XTC Classic is more up your alley. I dig Bogners compressed tone personally.

Chris, did your Bogner come to you with Svetlanas? That's what Bogner uses, because they're toneful and durable. They have a little more compression than JJ's, so if you retube, try the JJ EL-34s or E-34L's because they're a little more glassy on the cleans and the OD sounds a little more 'open.'

Good to know, thanks for the info Joe! My goal is to get some backup tubes for this thang and then see about what to get to bias this bad boy properly.

I really dig the tone of the Svetlana Winged C EL-34s, those things kick the best out of any other modern production EL-34 I've used (I had them in my Mk 1 Triamp based off of your recommendations way back when and they worked great).

I'm itching to get a 4x10'' Bogner cab for the Shiva because it might just give it a bit of a sweeter, more open tone with a bigger spread and not quite as much bass (the clean channel bass breaks up around 12 - 1 o'clock on the preamp volume, which is usually where my band levels are set). Right now my closed back Bogner cab is making it slightly box due to the inherent compressed tone of the amp.

How much is the Bogner in Norway? Maybe you could order it from elsewhere in Europe for cheaper? For example, I don't think that the prices of the finnish distributor are completely insane, just a lot: 3466€!

And do check out other amps too, like the Koch that aleclee mentioned. With that kind of money you have all the options you could want to consider.

Well, i've been playing for about 8-9 years, and i have never owned a quality guitar amp. And buying a good quality product is like an investment, if it's perfect you migth never have to buy something like it again.

I DO have the money though... but i should proably use them on more important stuff.

Though, i know that my taste in tone and style will change, so buying an amp while i'm so young migth not be the best idea.

Buying the best stuff available is not a bad idea at all. The problem is, IMO, if you know what the best stuff available is. So I'd think that it'd be better if you buyed a good tube amp and then found out what you're really looking for. First buy something used with a price of 1000-1500€ and then when you really know (I take it that you don't if you've never owned a quality piece) you can sell your current one without much loss and take one for the rest of your life.

One of the great "perfect" rock amps of the world. Every time I've seen George Lynch live, he brings a bunch of different amps but it's pretty much always the Bogner Ecstacy he's plugged into, hearing him play it gives me Bogner-GAS every time.

Nope, it's the Ecstacy in his studio notes, as well as in his live videos as well as the times I've seen him live. My personal favorite Lynch playing is in Sacred Groove and in a couple of the Dokken reunion albums, where the Ecstacy is credited with most of the load. Lynch was pretty much synonymous with the Ecstacy during that time period.

More recently on Lynch/Pilson Wicked Underground he split it into Diezel VH4 and Bogner Uberschall on the other side.

He uses a lot of amps on the albums and live he always brings a lot of different ones, being a big Bogner guy I'm sure the Shiva is in there somewhere.
