A friend has a Randy Rhoads V and i dig the fender on steroids thing...

Any recomendations? I'm not looking for pointy guitars, or anything with a floyd.
No active pickups either.

whats the best bang for my buck?

Haha Fender on Steroids XD

u gotta remember that jacksons arent the only guitars that are like that.
ESP, Ibanez, Dean, PRS and Schecter are all great choices.

ESP, Ibanez, and Shecter have more variety when it comes to guitar body
Some of Jackson's guitar bodies are more "exotic". I think theyre pretty badass.
Go to ur local guitar store and try each of them out.
Good Luck

I have an ESP.

It's a basswood guitar with a defective floyd and lame LTD pickups.

left a bad taste in my mouth.

however im hoping a maple and alder jackson with some duncans will be better.

right now the soloist thats HSS is looking sweeeet.

Zerb:

off topic: i checked out your music on myspace a few weeks ago and thought it was fresh and original. tip of the hat. (now the link is gone..?)

on topic: though these guitars are made out to look like metal machines, they can handle lower gain levels right? I mean its an alder body with a maple neck and a JB/ jazz combo...

I want the playability and the sound, though I wont always be pushing it to metal tones.

Re: ...I think I want a Jackson.

The higher end Jackson imports are from Japan and are really high quality. Just as good as any american guitar I have played. The only thing I don't like is that they come with Lic. Floyd Rose instead of an original.

As I stated, I'm not looking for a floyd. but most licensed floyds are turn offs to me.

Re: ...I think I want a Jackson.

The thing you'll like about a Jackson is the same thing one likes about a PRS......the neck....wide and flat....easy to play.....and for the price...the craftsmanship had better be there!

Re: ...I think I want a Jackson.

Like some other guys and I said in my are pointies specialty guitars thread, it's settled that an electronics swap can make any guitar sound pretty good for any kind of tone. For the most part. So it doesn't have to be balls to the friggin walls slaughterhouse tones only.

Actually most of the higher end imporst have the Ping made FRT-1000 which is only minimally inferior to the real thing. IF at all, seems nobody has complained about dull knife edges or wobbly arms on them yet, at least not any more than with "real" OFRs.

But considering he wanted something without a Floyd, it kind of doesn´t matter anyway :beerchug:

Re: ...I think I want a Jackson.

As someone who owns both Japanese and an American Soloist, I think the USA models slaughter the imports. Absolutely slaughter them. That said, the Japanese models are still quite nice. I've a DK2 and an SL3, and though both are older and came with the crapo-o-matic licensed Floyd that bears a suspicious resemblance to the Ibanez Lo-TRS, they are otherwise very solid guitars. My SL3 (now with a real Floyd) is my #3 and my favorite trem-equipped guitar.

Fighting my refinished Epi Les Paul for #1 status is this. It was a lot of money for me, but it was worth every penny. I've never played a better metal guitar.

That's not an ESP. A real ESP is an amazing guitar with normally top-notch fit and finish, top shelf hardware and pickups etc.

+1 It says LTD on the headstock for a reason. Not that some of them aren't very nice guitars for the money, but it's the old Gibson/Epiphone thing again.

Re: ...I think I want a Jackson.

Jackson guitars make some players lazy, because you don't have to fight the guitar and you don't have to fight for compliments.
