...I think I want a Jackson.

Re: ...I think I want a Jackson.

I dont think you can go wrong with a dk2 hard tail. I played several over a period of time while guitar searching before buying the one I got and the quality from guitar to guitar was pretty consistant. the major flaws I could see in any I looked at were some glue seepage on the neck binding on a few of them. it didnt effect playablility one bit, but you could definitley notice it.

the one i bought came from ebay, so I guess I was confident enough in all the ones I played that i could buy one sight unseen.

Im glad I did, its easily the best guitar ive owned. the neck is perfect and is obviously completely different on what you would find on a fender guitar. the neck is flatter with wide tall frets which to me makes low action feel higher because the strings are higher off the fretboard while still being closer to the fret. the JB jazz pickup combo is not something im inclined to change either as im perfectly happy with the tones i get form the guitar and it seems to sustain better than any guitar ive owned as well.

if the USA Jacksons really do blow the MIJ ones away, then imo the USA ones must really be something to behold. id love to try one out as ive never had the pleasure as of yet.

anyone know how satin black is different?

there arent many hardtail jacksons (strat shape). :(

i was looking for active pickups. (hence this soloist).

the jackson models go by numbers? 3 is good, 2 is better, 1 is best?

Re: ...I think I want a Jackson.

Normally the 1 and 2 models are USA, and the 3s are Japanese-made versions of the 1 and 2 models (KE3 is the Japan-made Kelly, KE1 and KE2 were the USA-made models, SL3 is the import SL1&2, etc).

I will say the SLS3 kicks major ass. I was fortunate enough to score one recently for a nice price, and although it comes with dual 2-conductor 59s, that's easy to fix. I definitely prefer the look of the SLS3 over the SLSMG (mostly it's the inlays).

As for the difference between Black and Satin Black - Black is Gloss Black, Satin Black is a matte finish.

The SLS is basically a neckthrough Gibson SG - mahogany body/neck, and lightweight. However, it doesn't nosedive like an SG, it's got a 25.5" scale length, and 1 11/16" nut width.
The neck isn't too thick or too thin, but that's subjective IMO.

You could always pop out the passive stock pickups and install EMGs/Blackouts if you wanted.

im not really into the sls3 inlays. sorry bro. to each his own. so am i right in guessing the SLSMG is like the "3" version of it?

i like that it already comes with the quick connect. i can just buy blackouts.

Re: ...I think I want a Jackson.

Why don't you get something with a Floyd and block it? DK2s seem to go pretty cheap even in the UK, so you would probably find a nice one for buttons over there.

I have an LTD set up in such fashion. I'm not really into it.

I think I'd rather get one that's designed as a fixed bridge guitar.

I thought about this though. I'm not discounting floyds actually. if its a quality floyd, i might like it.

this also looks interesting

dkmgt

is this the case jackson is throwing in with their guitars these days?
