Re: I will have to face the fact I will never own an ...

If I were wishing for a 1970s "natural" guitar, it would probably be a Veillette-Citron. Very few 6-strings out there, most of their production was devoted to basses I think.

A couple of my white whales; I had the chance to buy one of these Ibanez doublenecks many years ago, and passed on it. Nowadays it'd be too heavy for me; shoulda jumped on it when I was young and strong...

One I've never played, only saw an example it behind glass once, the Gittler guitar. Totally sci-fi and beautiful. One was up for sale last year- really wanted it but it was out of my price range.

And another that I'll never get close enough to touch; only a few of these Velanos were ever made.

I don't really need a guitar as specialized and expensive as this one since I don't play thrash, but this is kind of a rare guitar and I'll always want one anyway.
It's definitely my blue unicorn.

I wanted that guitar *so bad* in the late 90's/early 00's.

I still do.

Marty has a new Les Paul-ish signature model with Jackson, but he's also using a new Kelly for some live material and it's INSANE.

A TOM bridge and two humbuckers this time, I guess they're his passive signature EMG set.

Notice a lot are sig models. Great guitars, very useful mods for me, but too expensive. I'm not opposed to playing sig models, I just can't afford it.

That's enough. I have this hollow, ill feeling now. I think it might be GAS.

Wow I'm very honored by that, didn't expect to see any of my guitars in this thread, Do you want my bank account number? :)

You know, when I saw that one posted, I thought it looked like one that one of us had built but I just couldn't remember whose. Congrats ChAoZ! [emoji1303]

Hey man, it doesn't matter if a girl's daddy is a farmer or a millionaire... if she's gorgeous, she's gorgeous. And this girl is GORGEOUS!
This is without doubt, one of the nicest guitars I've ever seen, no matter if hand built or by a huge company. (I especially love the neck!) If I ever get to New Zealand, we will definitely tip a few beers, tell some lies, and call out the women!

(BTW...that bank account number wouldn't do me much good...unless I can make withdrawals, too! :33: )

I will probably never own an original Gretsch High Roller, maybe a reissue one day but even those are going for well over 2 grand.

Re: I will have to face the fact I will never own an ...

Here is a Teuffel Tesla, one of my Holy Grail guitars. But a price of 10k or so, keeps this musician away. But I played it for 1/2 hr at NAMM, and talked to the designer for a good 45 mins. Brilliant guy.

Thos big circles are momentary switches. You have a kill switch, a switch to *add* hum (to simulate a broken cable), and a switch to add squealing microphonic feedback (the bad kind). No, I am not kidding.

Re: I will have to face the fact I will never own an ...

I saw one of these in the late 80's and fell in love with quilted Maple, it looked so deep it looked like it went right out the bottom of the case

Re: I will have to face the fact I will never own an ...

Why would anyone want to add hum or microphonic feedback?

I will add one more, which is one of the best guitars I have ever played. This was built by eccentric builder Steve Klein, who has some amazing designs. It was perfectly balanced (you can put it on your leg and take your hands off, and it would sit there), and sounded wonderful. Used, they are usually $4k or so.

This exactly ... except with a 3 way switch and coil split

Re: I will have to face the fact I will never own an ...

An original (mid-60's) Gibson Non-Reverse Firebird. Preferrably in "Inverness Green" like Mr Winwood's here:
https://youtu.be/xT4-iBuDw0Q
I'd link a pic if P-bucket wasn't being stupid.
The recent re-issues go for $1200 or so, the ones from the early '00s can run $2k and an original, 60's one with an unbroken neck can be 10 times that... ugh. My "guitar mentor" when I was a kid, had one (a sunburst) I'd go watch him and his buddies light up and rock out in their garage all the time, and have wanted an NR bird pretty much since then.

Re: I will have to face the fact I will never own an ...

Gibson super 400, benedetto manhatten or a 1956 strat.

Yes, i have expensive taste.

-THREAD HIJACK ALERT-

So, uh... think of a guy like me, who plays traditional designs 100% of the time (Strats, my Les Paul and my 339) and have never tried anything avantgarde, not even a Parker or a Steinberger.
How would you explain playing one of those to me? What kind of sounds come out of it?
I guess it's like describing green to a blind person, but you can try. :)

I'm so intrigued by those wacky, uber expensive designs, and chances are I'll never play one. I'd really appreciate your impressions on that.

Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo would love that thing.
