If you could have ONE player's tone, who would it be?

Re: If you could have ONE player's tone, who would it be?

Brian May all the way. Silky smooth, articulate, sustain for days. Particularly Killer Queen and The Show Must Go On.

Re: If you could have ONE player's tone, who would it be?

warren haynes in the early/mid 90's had some killer tone
derek trucks goes back and forth from having amazing tone to just great tone

id be happy if i could have either when they are at their best but im very satisfied with my current tone with the rig ive been using most lately.

hamer daytona (strat) with strabro90's or custom tele with seth lover and double screw a2 brobucker->timmy (gain 10 oclock, volume 3 oclock, treble and bass around 2 oclock)->deluxe reverb (volume 4-6, treble 6, bass 3, reverb 3) it does everything i need it to do at a volume that wont get me tossed out of clubs

Re: If you could have ONE player's tone, who would it be?

Mike Campbell- anything he plays on sounds good.

Re: If you could have ONE player's tone, who would it be?

I am learning to control and use my own with a little proficiency....so I will say my own.

If it had to be someone else....either Billy G or Gilmour.

Re: If you could have ONE player's tone, who would it be?

Gilmour from the Echoes/ Live from Pompeii era

Re: If you could have ONE player's tone, who would it be?

for metal rhythm: Stéphane Souteyrand from Yyrkoon http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Un1BqCt4mxI
for leads: Jeff Loomis
overdriven: Warren Haynes
clean: Jason Becker (think Air)
other random noodling/stoner rock/doom/raunchy blues: Mike Amott from Arch Enemy's Black Earth album (i think it's better suited to those genres than any of his spiritual beggars tones)...has this weird saturated but loose sound, where you can hear the vibration of strings... it's nuts, but sounds awesome

Re: If you could have ONE player's tone, who would it be?

Robben Ford. That's my favorite.

Another great player that gets great tone is Chuck Loeb. He's a monster of a player!

Re: If you could have ONE player's tone, who would it be?

That's a toss up between Warren Haynes and the Rev......

+100!

Be original!

But if I had to pick, then I would want Gilmour's tone.

Re: If you could have ONE player's tone, who would it be?

If I had to be stuck with someone else's sounds it'd be Christian Hayes (no, not the American AOR one), Dark Star era.

Jim Hall's tone on Undercurrents (with Bill Evans)

Gibson ES-175, Single P90, flatwound 11's.
Gibson GA-50 amp.
The guitar is also mic'd acoustically, which creates some of the coolest comping tones once Bill's solo gets going around 2:30.

Re: If you could have ONE player's tone, who would it be?

Something along the lines of Rory Gallagher with a touch of David Gilmour

Other times I want Derek Trucks on a good day, with single notes similar to Santana on "Black Magic Woman"

So probably a strat with a thumbpick and my fingers and a whole lot more talent. I'm thinking an amp somewhere between a vox and a fender, with that fender fatness on the high notes, and vox chime.

Re: If you could have ONE player's tone, who would it be?

Speaking of Rory Gallagher, there is a good lengthy piece about him in last month's Guitar World (the one with Skynyrd on the cover).
