If you could have ONE player's tone, who would it be?

Re: If you could have ONE player's tone, who would it be?

Hi Guys,

I've not been on the Forum much of late due to work stuff, but had a moment to drop in, so Hi one and all!

It'd have to be Dave Gilmour for me.

Cheers:friday:

Re: If you could have ONE player's tone, who would it be?

Billy Gibbons' Esquire tone.

With the strings so detuned that they flop about? (A la Rhythmeen period.)

Can't decide between Jeff Beck, Peter Green, David Gilmour, Frank Zappa and Robert Fripp. So, I'm going to nominate myself. Ha,ha.

Seriously. I'm happy with my tone ... for about five minutes when the germ of an idea for another pickup or wiring change pops into my head. ;)

David Gilmour, late 70's. The tones on his self titled solo album, released in '78 or '80, I forget, were the finest ever recorded.

Difficult.... it could be Kossof, Gilmour, Angus, Malcolm Young, Iommi..... I'm going to stick with my man Angus.

I pretty much use the same answer for every similar thread to this:

Keith Urban. He can take anything with six strings and I'd listen to it on repeat.

Eric Johnson's sounds on Ah Via Musicom.

Josh Homme, just because I don't know how to get it, hahaha.

That or Keith Nelson's (Buckcherry) tone on the '15' album. Can't stand the band, but d@mn they have bad@ss guitar tone. Cranked, boosted Fender Bandmaster into a vintage Marshall 4x12.

I'd want my own tone.

(would seem kinda pointless to have been playing for 35 years or more and still wanna sound like someone else methinks).

Re: If you could have ONE player's tone, who would it be?

tough one..

I love John Sykes tone on Still of the Night and the Snake classics like that. Esp the solo on Here I go Again.

This would be my overall choice..

I love to be able to cop Gilmour's soaring tone on Comfortably numb, EVHs VH 2 brown, and Slash's Sweet Child solo tone..

And, I wish I could Play my emotions like Carlos...
