If you want to get into a Tele cheap may I suggest......

.........The new Squire Classic Vibe 50's Telecaster. I got mine in Monday and for $299 I really don't think you can beat it. At a distance it looks like an old 50's Blackguard era Tele. Even up close it looks like one until you see the Squire label on the headstock. In short, if you want to try a Tele, but dont want to spend a lot, you would be doing yourself a huge favor by grabbing one of these.

I will post pictures soon, but below are a few of the options these have. I promise if someone were to have blind folded me and handed me this guitar and said it was MIA, I would have had NO problem believing them. Fit, finish and frets are all spot on too which was a surprise. I LOVE it! PUPs aren't bad either! (Still needs a set of Antiquity IIs though!)

The pine body makes it tempting but a thick poly finish is a deal-breaker for me (from a philosophical standpoint) but the real question is - how's it sound? :)

Re: If you want to get into a Tele cheap may I suggest......

Buy them before Squire discontinues...

Re: If you want to get into a Tele cheap may I suggest......

i also like the look of the Classic 50's vibe strat

They sound great. Even with the stocker PUPs I am not completely turned off by it like I thought I would be. As far as the finish goes, I honestly don't think it is any thicker than a light Ash Tele or for that matter a lot of the other non Custom Shop Teles. I am going to put a new switch in there and pop a Phat Cat in the neck (routed for a neck bucker and not a swimming pool) and be done with it. Oh.....and I am putting some 10-52s on it and getting rid of those terrible 9's!

LOL, Greg - that is going to be my next purchase unless I can find an Esquire first! How does the neck on the Vibe Tele compare to the 50's Classic Esquire?

I havent played this one, but I HIGHLY recommend the Squier Vintage Modified tele. Compared that model to many of fender's offerings at double, triple, quad the price and the VM was as good or better. It was also $299 and I put in a Duncan JD in the bridge, Gfs pup in the neck and left the stock Duncan Designed middle and it is the bees' knees.

Im sure this one is prob made as well, I mention the VM for those who may not want a pine body.
Squier is doing good things

The radius is 9.5 and not as chunky. It does seem a little more substantial than a plain ol' standard Tele neck. It DID surprise me when I first picked it up. I was expecting a flimsy neck, but was surprised at how substantial it feels. The transparent finish is sexy too. I think it is THE Tele for anyone who needs a cheap Tele ride in their arsenal. I have a bunch of spare tele parts that I HAVE to resist putting on this guy.

Re: If you want to get into a Tele cheap may I suggest......

Pics pls! Ive never been into teles, but knew that I needed that tone in my aresenal. There is only one way to get that sound and thats a tele. So, I got the one I did and they are actually kinda addictive.. I like it more than I thought I would. The one good thing with the one I have is the mini bucker in the neck.. I get an amazing creamy blues tone outta that.

Re: If you want to get into a Tele cheap may I suggest......

i saw a 60's vibe squier strat tonight and for the money it had the nicest feeling neck!!!! The finnish was pretty good and the whole guitar is great for the bucks except the trem... it's pretty cheap... but i can't believe how the neck felt!!!! it even has the thin rosewood board... i forgot to see if it was round-lam or not... The body was nice too... the parts looked like they fit well too...

one of the nicest squires i've seen... with a trem upgrade they could be real players!!!!

Re: If you want to get into a Tele cheap may I suggest......

I don't get it.... I'm sure they're sweet, but an extra hundo will get you a MIM Standard with a bag....

ya i was thinking the same thing... but i'm pretty sure the store told me the 60's vibe strat i saw comes with a cheap bag as well...

the 60's vibe strat i saw was excellent quality... the neck is different then many Squires... it does have the feel of vintage 60's strat about it's neck only with slightly bigger frets... or a mid 80's Squier which in this case is trying to be like a new imported reissue of an old import... the body was extremely nice, fit and finnish was really well done and maybe even better then the MIM's in the store... the PU's are cheap Alnico's and the MIM are cheap Ceramic... apples and oranges i guess..

the bridge was cheaper then the MIM trems of late... but still for a cheapie it's not at all a bad deal...

all last night i was debating weather or not i should pick that vibe up.... it was pretty cool....

True.. BUT..
1) In my case I felt this particular Squier played better than the Standard. I compared to a bunch of diff Teles, even a couple of $500-700 models. They werent that much better than this Squier, IMO

2) Im not big on Teles ( wasnt till I got this one), so I didnt want to spend that extra hundred. Especially when I didnt need to.

3) The hundred I saved funded pup upgrade (which I would have also done with the standard

4) I liked the control layout and pickup configuration of this Squier model better. I get ALOT of use out of the neck mini bucker.

So it was win win.. I wont have the resale, but Im not looking to sell it..

Re: If you want to get into a Tele cheap may I suggest......

Pine is such a soft wood, you good carve a gash in it with your fingernail. I think the think poly finish might be in order in this case :)

Re: If you want to get into a Tele cheap may I suggest......

I would walk right past a MIM Standard Tele for the Squire 50's.

I am serious! I will stand by that all day long!
