You are calling me a liar. Well, I guess this liar will go find somewhere else to get information.

Thank you to all those who have really helped me with good information, particularly about the squire, I will definitely take a close look at the standard vs. affinitiy. I also appreciate the recommendations for pedals I have started researching them and they look like a very viable option.

So long folks this "liar" has greener pastures to explore.

Well, that escalated quickly.

In case the OP is still lurking, a pedal or two will work wonders for you. The SD pickup booster (recommended to me by a forum member) gets a great "hot humbucker" sound in the "2" position. Use your choice of OD/distortion pedal and you should be set.

With that guitar/amp, I'd be putting money into pedals. The OP seems more interested in them anyhow.

People always get ultra butt hurt over squires.

I like MIJ Squiers.

But the guy's story seemed fishy and made up.

To be honest, that is also why I poked at his story a bit in my first reply. I teach guitar to high school students, and a lot of times the "Gibson Les Paul" they tell me their dad gave them turns out to be an Epiphone Les Paul 100 that someone stuck a Gibson Truss rod cover on. I will tell them the truth when I see it if they ask, but hey, if it is a Gibson Les Paul to THEM, I'm not going to make a big deal out of it.

^ His reaction was WAY in the extreme too. Given there was an advanced apology given anyhow and the dummy still got comprehensively spat I'd be a bit worried.

wow.. wasnt apart of this thread but from what ive read.. all i can think of is "wth just happened" lol

Re: If you were a poor boy, could just put pups in a Squire Stratocaster what pups?

Maybe you old ladies should hobble off to the knitting forum. I think this place is for discussing guitars.

Personally I would like to hear more about the comparisons between Squier standard, affintitiy, FenderMIM and Fender made in USA.
I always thought the affinity was a pretty nice guitar with lousy pups and tuners. Standards not much better and the strat without an alder body (sacrilege). MIM good guitars that with a pup upgrade move up the scale significantly. Made in USA a high quality guitar ready to take to a gig or a recording session right out of the box.

Why would this matter? Yeah, he overreacted, but why not address his question, or not comment at all? There are lots of other threads to give useful information. When we get new people in here asking questions (no matter what the back story is), either help them or scroll to a different thread, ok?

Re: If you were a poor boy, could just put pups in a Squire Stratocaster what pups?

Reading through this thread, i assumed his "1963" strat was probably not what he thought it was. No need to make a hige deal out of it. And no one really made a huge deal of it.

Now that he exploded out of no where, im thinking he was paranoid of being found out, meaning he probably was at least imbelishing the story.

Re: If you were a poor boy, could just put pups in a Squire Stratocaster what pups?

Don't get me wrong man, I know I got a set up that is world class and there are guys who offer big money for the guitar and or amp constantly. I am thankful for what I got. But every now and then a guy shows up with a rig - hot pickups, modern Marshall or something amp and a pedal or twelve and he just hits it and hits hard in a way I can't reach with my rig as great as it is. I guess what I feel is missing from my tone is that brighter, more precise overdrive that new technology offers. I can live with it but I figure as I get a little extra cash I will start piecing together some gear with new tech stuff. I found on the pickup place Fishman Fluence Modern Humbucker sounds like maybe a good place to start: https://forum.seymourduncan.com/showthread.php?311076-Fishman-Fluence-Modern-Humbucker-any-updates-it-s-been-a-couple-of-years

Start with a Seymour Duncan pickup booster. As long as you want to keep taking that 63 out to clubs, the booster will do wonders for what you are asking for.

Re: If you were a poor boy, could just put pups in a Squire Stratocaster what pups?

What might have helped in this thread is the customary request for photographs of the OP's guitar. It would soon have become apparent whether the '63 was a genuine vintage piece, a misidentified AVRI or, even, an "import" Sixties style Fender.
