Introducing: The Custom Shop Online Store

Re: Introducing: The Custom Shop Online Store

This is cool. I've been thinking of getting custom shop pickups with some Zepher options (ie Cryogenically treated, Zepher polepieces, etc), but have yet to ask MJ for pricing. This would be cool to see how much each option costed so I could weigh the benefits to cost prior to purchase.

In most professions the techs have the inside track to what will turn out great. Would be great to hear from MJ about the one thing, if she could add/tweak, just one thing about the current Zephyrs (aside from price!).....what would MJ's one improvement be? If I remember correctly Jeremy posted a while back that Zephs are Zephs and would not be Zephs if they were customized so that is unlikely. Also possible I misunderstood his post and maybe MJ can take the Zephs to new heights?

I ordered mine to have 4 cond wire instead of 2. Not sure how big of a difference that would be but Scott did say they had to specially make it.

Re: Introducing: The Custom Shop Online Store

Is it possible to buy a single coil but with adjustable pole pieces or screws? Or could you actually aline the pole pieces to a specified radius on request?

That would be quite tricky to do, as what look like pole pieces in a single coil are actually the magnets, which are actually very fragile in comparison to a metal component. Also, in a normal single coil, moving the magnets runs the very real risk of breaking the coil. So you have both a a fragile material, and a design not geared towards being moved in play within a single coil pickup. There are some real design challenges to be overcome to achieve what you're looking for. I'm not suggesting it's insurmountable, but neither would it be easy or quick. MJ would probably be your best bet though in determining what can be achieved with the radius of the magnet heights, but don't assume that just because the radius follows that of the fingerboard, that you will get an even output across all strings - I don't think it's quite as simple as that.

I kind of figured that it wouldn't be that easy but just wondered what are my options. I adjusted the screws on my Humbuckers so I could get better clarity and a bit more brightness, it also tightened up the low end as well. Since singles are naturally bright and clear it may not be as big of an issue.

You mean like the adjustable poles like this one (There's only 3 on this pic)?

Then make that call to the Custom Shop, tell them your dreams and provide the numbers off the right thin piece of plastic - and it will happen. ;)

Yea, I'm not saying I want a Zephyr pickup. But rather order a P-Rail that's been cryogenically treated and uses the bi-metallic polepieces. Maybe even have the glass fiberfill nylon bobbins, depending on price.

I also wonder what using silver on one coil vs both coils would do to the sound/feel. Like if you used silver on the singlecoil of the P-Rail, would you retail the character of the rude P90 but make it clearer and punchier in humbucker mode? Or would silver on the P90 coil make the P90 even punchier and more rude? It seems like the possibilities are endless while keeping cost in mind, hence the advantage to seeing how much each feature costs.

The site is awesome, but it would be sweet if there was a build your own pickup from scratch section :bigthumb:

Does using the CS contact form give confirmation email that the message was succesfully sent?

Re: Introducing: The Custom Shop Online Store

Excellent.

One layout change that I think should be made is making the Categories list at the bottom horizontal and not vertical. It can even be aligned to the left. It just looks out of place the way it is.

Scott, this still needs to be addressed, IMO. It just looks "weird" the way it is. Might be cleaner to just remove that section altogether and have social media links there (FB, Twitter, Tumblr, Google+) lined up horizontally instead. Or, increase the Featured Products to be 8 in two rows of 4 to fill that space. Just a few thoughts that could make that space look better.

Thanks for the feedback Erik, much appreciated! I'll put it on my to do list.

Re: Introducing: The Custom Shop Online Store

I ordered a set of Psychedelic Strat pickups from the Custom Shop. Glad these and others in the Custom Shop are now available.

Re: Introducing: The Custom Shop Online Store

I'm seeing a few things on here now that have caught my deepest interests...

-Hot Rails 7-string!!!
-7-string Strat Stack!!!
-Black Winter in both the 7 & 8-string versions, OMG!!!

Needless to say this does not help my GAS, and it makes it even more challenging to try and decide which set of pickups I want to load into my ESP Alex Wade signature and my H/H/Slant SC Stephen Carpenter...

But after seeing the video comparisons Kieth Merrow did of the Nazgul, Pegasus, Sentient and the Black Winter, it's got me really leaning more towards the Nazgul & Sentient set - if not the Black Winter set - for my Alex Wade. For the Stephen Carpenter, I'm thinking on getting the Nazgul for the bridge, Pegasus for the middle, and either an SSL-6 or Hot Rails 7 for the slant SC in the neck.

Decisions, decisions...

Re: Introducing: The Custom Shop Online Store

New products day!

The new Charlie Christian Swingster (which has sounds pretty much identical to the CC) is now up and brings the price way down for those who want that old Charlie Christian tone but don't have the cash for the more traditional version: http://customshop.seymourduncan.com/charlie-christian-swingster/

Invader single-coil: http://customshop.seymourduncan.com/single-coil-invader/

Waaaay cool new products... the single coil Invader and Charlie Christian Swingster are just AWESOME additions to the already prodigious Seymour Duncan product line. Finally a righteous single coil for all metal players and the addition of a less binding intensive and subsequently lower cost version of the Charlie Christian is genius. 2013 sure has been an amazing year for Seymour Duncan!

I for one, would like to see this thread as a permanent sticky through 2014 if at all possible.
