I think the fact that these are based on actual pickups that Seymour made for the actual Jimi Hendrix, that he actually used, is enough for me. There is enough of a connection there as well as a great story to make it interesting. As far as the signature, it is the brand of the Jimi Hendrix estate. It appears on everything they have a part of.

Have you installed them yet? If so, how about a review and sound sample, if not when do you expect to have them so we can hear a first hand review.

Just to clarify, the Hendrix signature set will be made to the exact specs of the pickups that Seymour gave to Jimi (with the exception of the reverse magnet stagger).

Ok, just to further misconfuse - a left-handed set of the Jimi Hendrix signature pickups would have a right-handed stagger, essentially being 'normal' right-handed pickups, no?

Probably.


Hendrix was most likely using CBS era Strats. SRV was a huge Jimi fanboy and seemed to nail Hendrix tones pretty well with his pre-CBS pickups. I haven't talked to Rene in a bit, but I don't think Stevie changed anything with his stagger. Stevie's huge string gauges might have also helped beef things up enough to account for some of the other things Jimi had going on not necessarily pickup related.

The stagger is still a fun thing for a novel approach to the righty in a lefty situation.

I feel like I'm the target market. Without even trying, I've amassed a ton of Hendrix branded products.....CD's, Dunlop chrome/Italian crinkle sig wah, Fuzz Face, pick tins, artwork, and more T Shirts than I can count off hand.

I'm sitting here now, wearing this with a black vest.

I am having a difficult time understanding the $279 price tag.
Baseline:
Fender Custom shop excellent pickups ~$200/set;
Duncan excellent pickup set choices ~$180
So lets say start at $190
Mr. Duncan's story $ 50 per set
Hendrix signature -25 cost of removing embarrassing marking bought from a trust that has abused the legacy of Jimi Hendrix for decades
R&D savings -25 per set as they were already designed 48 years ago, so the story goes and I believe it
Fair price $190

What am I am I missing here?

Not to worry, there is no such thing as a "great" pickup. There are great hands and good pickups help them shine a little brighter .

Love Dougie R. And he certainly played in Hendrix-ish style, but yeah..thats just very modern and processed.

Shove a mic in front of a cranked plexi/dualshowman with some H30s,.grab a fuzz , wah, univibe and hit record. Thats it. Way too much processing going on in this demo.

As Riley posted, the company was founded in 1976. Making 2016 the 40th. Why has there been no big marketing mention of the 40th until now, Q4? No lead up in NAMM (winter or summer)?

Or was the company founded in Nov 1976, and this is the birthday?

With only a handful of weeks left in 2016, will there be any more "anniversary" level releases? Will Seymour do a series of rewinds, like he did when he first started?....which would be a nice thing for all the people that want something actually wound by Seymour.

Are these a Duncan Custom Shop pickup set - so that Seymour himself actually benefits from the profit made on these?

Or are they made in the regular factory?
