Invader with cover, need new covers!

Hey there, first post here but I have been reading up a lot.
I read a lot about people wanting to put a cover on an invader then followed by the caps.
I did it tonight, and I think it sounds the same as the invader, the reason I did it was to keep the chrome theme on my guitar going, but in the mean time I did screw up the cover because I drilled it on top of a piece of wood which allowed the holes to pop out uneven with the surface of the pickup, and in the meantime of trying to fix it, I scratched the crap out of it. But that's ok, my chrome caps won't be here till Monday so I don't mind ordering new covers.

I changed the Custom Custom because I didn't really like it, but I kind of miss the tone I got when I had my Synyster Custom, as I like to play some A7x stuff. So I figured I might as well replace the pickup I don't care for, for one I like, especially since I had a gift card for Guitar Center :)

But this means I will be selling my Custom Custom, how much do you think this would be worth if its off a few month old guitar, and I just uncovered it tonight?

So now my real question is where is the best place to get replacement covers for Seymours? I found 1 on Amazon for $15 but I would like at least 2 chrome covers that would fit.
Would the pro line ones at Guitar Center work?
Do they make these covers with 12 holes? This would make it so I don't risk messing it up again and I would pay extra for these!

If I can't get it right my other option is to take the cover off the '59 in the neck and just put chrome rings around the pickups like I have on there now. Problem with this is I read that it is probably zebra under the cover and not black/black so I am going to try to avoid this. Besides who wants an uncovered pickup that doesn't say Seymour Duncan? Plain is boring.

Here's my guitar so you can see how it looks. I think the invader will look sharp with chrome caps instead of black, but I gotta wait a Few days.

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks

be wary of non-SD covers, as SD's regular spacing (SH-whatever) is the same as other manufacturers' neck spacing (ie gibson and dimarzio). then, the trembucker spacing is wider than gibson bridge spacing and DMZ F-spacing.

because you're going to need a 12-hole cover in invader spacing, which is between SH and TB spacing and pretty much like gibson bridge spacing, i'm afraid your only pre-fab option will be the custom shop... and i'm not sure what the lead time would be on this.

otherwise, perhaps some specific drill bits and a couple practice covers will be the way forward...

from the look of the pic, with the right tools and method you could probably make yourself a decent one anyway; nice one

Re: Invader with cover, need new covers!

Thanks for not, you're stupid for putting a cover on this blah blah :P

I am sure I could drill it, this time I just have to drill it over something much harder than a 2x4 so the holes cannot bubble out or sink in.

I am gonna run by guitar center and see if by any chance those pro line ones would fit by bringing the custom custom I just ripped out and trying it over it.

Though a 12hole one would be nice to have so I don't mess it up I highly doubt I will find one that will work, as I can't even find one at all.

Where can I order Seymour Covers? Website?
I can't actually find them where they are packaged in the Seymour Duncan packaging...

That's actually a pretty cool idea!

If I were going to take that on, I'd use a center punch and make a small dent where I was going to drill to keep the drill from walking all over the place. I'd also drill from the back side of the cover and work my way up to the size hole I needed and then use a needle file to clean the holes up.

Where to find more covers? That's a good one. I can't seem to find them anywhere. Wymore Guitars use to have them in stock, but John sold his store to someone else and the new guy doesn't seem to be restocking his inventory.

Schaller makes 12 hole covers, but I don't know their spacing. If you can find a Schaller distributor they might have them.

Welcome to the forum! I know that the Custom Shop offers a covered 12 screw humbucker with a cover, but I don't know that they'll sell you the cover alone. MJ has been kind to enough to sell me miscellaneous parts with an order.

edit: BTW, nice job on the schecter. She looks very classy. :naughty:

Re: Invader with cover, need new covers!

^ that would fit the criteria pretty well...

Re: Invader with cover, need new covers!

I need that cover...HAHA
Yeah I love my guitar, its very fancy looking, that's why I'm trying to keep it going while still getting the hot sound of the invader in there, in kind of a disguised way.
I think it will look great with chrome poles, and I picked up 2 new covers today (the prolines from GC) They seem like they will work but I am not positive, if they don't I'm only out $12 for the set of 2.

Now to drill it without screwing up the cover... only have 1 extra to make up for a mistake!

Re: Invader with cover, need new covers!

If you decide to sell your custom custom let me know what you want for it. Ive been wanting to try one but don't want to spend new money on a pickup I'm not sure about. Thanks and BTW love the look of your Schecter, I had a C1-FR that I traded for a Jackson RR3. Still kicking myself over the deal.
