IMO, the Mexican, Korean and Indonesian plants are turning are turning out top notch stuff nowadays.

The bigger question is whether the dimensions and specs are what you want.

Being Made In America is no longer the definition of quality it used to be, unfortunately.

Re: is the thurston moore jazzmaster made in the USA?

I own one guitar made in China and one made in Korea and they are both inferior to my MIM guitars.

In particular I am disatisfied with the quality of the woods, the frets, and the wiring components.

Re: is the thurston moore jazzmaster made in the USA?

i've owned enough asian-made and american-made guitars to know the difference in quality. this isn't a discussion on asian-made quality now or from 10+ years ago.

i just want to know where it's made. i'm not interested in buying anything that comes from asia. talk about tokai all you want but i'd prefer a genuine fender made by craftsmen, not sweatshop zombies.

The production methodology will be the same regardless of origin. I also doubt that the standard line workers in America are anymore "craftsman" than the workers abroad. Now, if its an ethical issue (worker rights, wages, or good ol fashion US exceptionalism) that may be different.

I'm sorry to derail the thread, but everytime I see this threads title, all I can think of is

the post from the guy who invented fire is the only one that is answering the question at hand so far. all other posts are bunk.

You're right. TGIF addressed the question. He is .2% sure it is not made in the US.

Are you going to buy the guitar?

Re: is the thurston moore jazzmaster made in the USA?

To answer your question... yes - this is an American made product. I looked up some reviews of it and one guy called Fender and Fender did acknowledge that it is American made.

Given the $2200 MSRP that's not a shocker, but obviously it means a lot to you. FWIW, I'd be rippin' pissed too if I paid even half that cost on something that wasn't MIA. Glad to see Fender isn't trying to squeeze hundreds of extra dollars of profit per sale from acting shady and charging a premium for an import signature model. So yes, if you dig the guitar, just buy it and report back here. Looks like a sweet axe!

My Thurston Moore Jazzmaster has nothing saying "Made in USA" on it, but the serial number does start with the letters "US". It is a very high quality instrument.

Re: is the thurston moore jazzmaster made in the USA?

Look at the price and the specs. Definitely made in the U.S.A. Quality wise, that doesn't matter all that much on most models. As far as the basic body and neck construction goes, the American ones are made kind of similarly to the Mexican ones at this point. But with certain models, the American ones are notably different (I would say "better"). For instance, the Thinskins, AVRIs, Custom Shop instruments, Highway Ones, and certain other models (like the Thurston Moore Jazzmaster) that use different types of finish materials. AVRI bodies are nitro over a plastic-like sealer. Highway Ones have lacquer bodies (formerly acrylic, but now nitrocellulose), and I am not sure if they use the plastic sealer or not. CS guitars and Thinskin guitars are nitro without the plastic sealer. So a large part of what you are paying for with those models is the finish. It's the biggest difference between them and the MIMs.
