Is there an ultimate tube screamer?

Re: Is there an ultimate tube screamer?

These TS cannot compete with the midi controlled TC Nova Drive.

Re: Is there an ultimate tube screamer?

I think the best option for you is to take your guitar and amp head into a shop that stocks dozens of OD and boost pedals. Don't go there to stroke them, go with money ready to spend. Keep plugging in different ones till you're ready to pull the money out.

There's no good and bad OD's, within reason. Their purpose is to meld with your amp's tone. That's why online clips only give you a vague idea of whether you'll like it or not. And most online clips are plugged straight into a clean amp, not how you're going to use it.

Once you play enough of them into your amp, you'll know exactly what you like and don't like.

I probably said this already, but I like the Tubs Creamer pedals. The mid hump is part of the charm.

I got an old plane MIDS. Selected locations as Gibson175 said. Easy to get the TS-type Sur Chicago. It's small, sounds good, if you want, you can use 18V.

Check out the BBE Green Screamer. I think it just might have the transparency you're looking for. Well made, and they come with a power supply. Great value!

After trying many od's I always end up back with the faithfull TS9,
..........
....but I'd recommend trying the xotic effects BB preamp, less unwanted colouration and more adjustable with its treble and bass controls.

I recently also discovered that it's great for adding that little bit of grind to my Rickenbacker 4003 when practicing straight into the mixer - it now lives in the case with my Ric!

Re: Is there an ultimate tube screamer?

The ultimate Tuebscreamer is the one that works best FOR YOU.

I love my ratherdashing modded TS-7. I've tried others and they didn't quite make it for me.

Re: Is there an ultimate tube screamer?

Didn't like the TS 7, but I love the MXR Classic Overdrive. It's very creamy and works really well with the MXR Classic Distortion.
