Is This A Good Deal?

Re: Is This A Good Deal?

We actually went over this in one of your other threads, TT aint the best thing Laney put out, and for that price for a one speaker combo I woud pass.

Re: Is This A Good Deal?

yeah i remember the post, but how bad can a laney be? he he, i guess i got your answer. oh well, it looked like a good deal and the amp sounds great. i thought it sounded just like hte vc30 except louder.

i don't know why it sucks because the vc30 was so similar IMO. does the vc30 suck too?

VC/VH are different tones than TT, pretty different in my openion but that's from me listening to the clips, havent played them. Read this:

Re: Is This A Good Deal?

The point of that thread was, to show that they are pretty different, also go to original thread here and see how different their power amps are.

Re: Is This A Good Deal?

besides sounding more modern than the vc, what's the deal with the tt50? i mean is it quality in components? what specifically is the problem? i have to wonder if it's just not acceptable to laney purists or if it actually sucks for some legitimate reason.

would you agree that an analogy might be that laney purists don't like laney modern amps as marshall purists don't like modern marshalls or something like that?

Re: Is This A Good Deal?

for that much money, my money isn't going to Laney. *shrug* Maybe that's just me. I especially am not buying new.

For only a couple hundred more I could have a Bogner Shiva and a roadcase to keep it in:

Nah, man its simplier and more subjective thatn that, I am not a laney purist, I just like the best of Laney, 70s - Supergroup(we all know why), 80s - AOR series a proud owner of, 90s - VH100, 2000 .... I dont think its going to be TT, the way it looks now - Lionheart.

Re: Is This A Good Deal?

Laney has never heald value, they are very cool amps that seem to be had on the cheap, going back to the Supergroup years to now. I personally would not pay that price as I know it will be had for much cheaper down the line.

Wassup Kev!
Exactly, the best thing about laney after tone is that they are an anti-marketing company and when you combine it with U.S.'s obsessive marshall masturbation you get the best tone for the buck.

Re: Is This A Good Deal?

laney tt50 1x12, brand new, $1,350?

Find one used, and it'll be a good deal. New or used I wouldn't pay that much for an amp that's not PTP.

(Personally I don't think PTP has any effect on tone. I do however think it has a marked effect on quality, and durability.)

Re: Is This A Good Deal?

Point to Point. Basically just a hand wired amp. They gotta hire a semi-skilled craftsman to build a PTP amp, so at the very least you know your getting something built by a competent person.

Plus PCB (printed circut board) amps tend to have board mounted tube sockets (preamp at least in most cases). I just don't trust a circut board mounted tube socket. It seems like a bad Idea to have something that generates alot of heat mounted onto a thing that is held in place by a very heat senstive material.

Re: Is This A Good Deal?

point to point, to expect PTP from a production line company is like expecting a mind opening conversation on Camus' Stranger not really being a product of Sartre's concept with a 20 dollar street whore in the back seat of your car.

I didn't say to expect it from a production line amp. I'm just saying I wouldn't spend that much on a PCB amp. Theres way to many used PTP amps out there, for a better price, to even consider spending that much on a mass produced modern amp. Just my opinon though.

I was talking to mike soldano about this cuz I ordered the 50+ which has circuit board mounted tube sockets. And he assured me they've been doing this for a long time, and there was nothing to worry about.... I took his word for it...hope there's no problems.
