Is your action above below or average?

Re: Is your action above below or average?

I *used* to play this, though

Re: Is your action above below or average?

I drop mine down to the board, then back up until bends at the 12th and 15th don't choke out.

So basically, my action is the same as my playing - below average :D

I do like to keep at least one (out of 30) so low that bending a full step is not possible. It's just so fluid and effortless. And soulless. And toneless. Meh, whatever.

Re: Is your action above below or average?

i prefer to take my guitar to a tech and ask him for the lowest action, then when it's done i start to fret and rise the action until i hear no fret buzz at all, or at least until i care, then i check the intonation, i don't actually measure, nor like if i care, if someone else try to play my guitar the last problem will be the action (i like to wear the guitar so low that the average human being can't play it)

My action with the ladies is just fine...
Never got a complaint from any of them, either!

Oh wait, the topic is about guitar action - It is setup per factory specifications, but with 11-52!

He's back to trolling again!

You said either!

adjective
1.
one or the other of two:
You may sit at either end of the table.
2.
each of two; the one and the other:
There are trees on either side of the river.

Re: Is your action above below or average?

Well, when you try to be funny in a thread about GUITAR action and make it about your noodle like a 12 year old, you're gonna get ribbed. If you can't accept that, go hang out with other 12 year olds and tell wild tales of babes you've bagged to each other.

Re: Is your action above below or average?

my action on my main 2 guitars are aprox.. the same.. around 2 mm at the 12th fret/6th string.

Re: Is your action above below or average?

Actually kind of depends on the guitar, but mostly I'd say it's about average. Action is very low on my new Danelectro, and the strings buzz a tiny bit as a result, but the slight buzzing actually seems to add to the jangliness, so I kind of dig it. I do want to put heavier strings on it, though, so that I can play in DADGAD without the low E (or...uhhh....D, in that case) being super floppy. I'm just worried that I may lose a little of what I love about the sound of it.

Re: Is your action above below or average?

I like to set my action as low as it will go without fretting out on bends, and then I raise it just a hair. I don't strum hard so I'm not concerned about potential rattles from that.

Re: Is your action above below or average?

I set mine at about 2mm between the bottom of the string and the top of the fret...measured at fret 12. I also like a very straight neck.

Re: Is your action above below or average?

On my main guitar which I play the most (Warmoth LP, Wilkinson 2 point trem, 24.75" scale neck): with a capo on the first fret I set my string height to measure at exactly 4/64" from the bottom of each string to the top of the 12th fret. I like my relief to stay right around .02mm to .025mm when measured with a capo on the first fret, a finger on the 17th fret of the low E string using a feeler gauge at the 7th fret (I make adjustments 4 to 6 times a year to keep it in that range).

I guess I like pretty low action.

Re: Is your action above below or average?

I have been setting up guitars for over 40 years for myself and friends. I have never ever looked at a spec or a measurement. And I definitely set up my own guitars lower than specs I am sure, I go pretty much as low as possible with as a straight a neck as possible. I don't think I've ever bought a guitar new or used where I didn't lower the action and straighten the neck a bit. For friends, I try to do it as they wish, but often they play one of mine and say "do it that way".
