I'd have been using EB R-n-R's more than likely...I've used them lately and liked them alright so I guess I'd have used them.

I still use them when I can't get the GHS strings I like.

Christian, are you still digging those burnished nickels?are they as slinky as the RnRs?

I heard Billy Gibbons and BB King talking about string gauge back in the day on Sat radio. Billy used heavy strings with a wound G until they opened for BB King once. BB was back stage and picked up one of Billy's guitars and put it back down saying: "Why do want to work so hard for?" Billy replied: " I thought you needed heavy strings for blues" But BB made up his own super light sets and said that "heavy strings for blues is BS". Billy started using super light strings from then on.

In 1974, the only guitar I had was a no-name acoustic. Even at that stage, I was experimenting by shoving a condenser microphone inside the soundhole in an attempt to "electrify" the bugger. I had no amplifier at the time. I must have been plugging the microphone directly into a portable cassette recorder. I would only have been able to "enjoy" the overdriven guitar sound when replaying the cassette. With the benefit of hindsight, this was pretty much how Keith Richards got the guitar sound on Street Fighting Man. I digress.

Strings would have been Picato or their (even more) budget offshoot, Dragon.

I started playing in '76 and got my first electric in '77. I used Black Diamond strings, couldn't tell you good, bad or indifferent. I remember using Fender or Ernie Ball strings for quite a while after that intial period.
