I have to agree with you guys on this one. Total BS. I believe these are made in Memphis, right? Turn over there as well? Hmm....

Small dealers getting screwed, big chains taking over the major distribution, employees leaving, and a strong Gibson customer gets a guitar with sawdust all over it and no paperwork.

That's what I'd expect from MF but not your local small dealer. I'm suprised the dealer didn't inspect the guitar. They must have dropped shipped it.

Gary was right on with that picture. Their NAMM policy of appt only was total BS. A year or two earlier, they had the same policy, but i managed to slip in. Not very impressed with teh booth to be honest. This year they had a sales guy acting like a bouncer. Pretty sad.

This is why I say I won't buy a Gibson anymore. People thought I was joking around when I mentioned how sloppy their quality control has become. They pawned it off that I must have just gotten a "dud". I'm glad people are wising up, because everyone that buys a new Gibson is just feeding their shoddy guitar building methods. For their new prices, there are so much better instruments, just don't bother with junk like that anymore. Buy a DTM, Driskill, PRS, Grosh, Suhr, Anderson, Tyler, Baker... if you're going to spend a lot of money, make sure you're getting premium woods and tight craftsmanship. End of story

Send that crap back! I'd be looking for all kinds of phone #'s and calling daily. Call QC daily, call distribution daily, call customer service...yes daily. If you still want a Gibson that will at least get them to take you seriously.

I think everyone knows how I feel about this subject, and if they don't that can figure it out by my signature.

If you wouldn't have bought it in person you shouldn't accept it. I know you are a big Gibson guy so it definitely has to bring you down, see what your dealer will do. Dropship from the factory is always a tough call, most factories are not set up to deliver a guitar (or any product) directly to the end user, that just isn't their business.

Buy a DTM, Driskill, PRS, Grosh, Suhr, Anderson, Tyler, Baker...

THe problem is, nothing quite sounds or plays like a Gibson Les Paul. Heritage is awfully close though. But they have their fair share of quality issues as well.

Brands like DTM and GMP make Les Paul styled guitars with thick mahogany bodies and 1/4'' maple tops and mahogany/rosewood necks (they can be ordered beefy), so for the life of me; I can't see why they can't nail the "Gibson Les Paul" tone. I would think if you have the right body mass, the proper woods and two humbuckers, you can get the Les Paul tone. I think Gibson has tried to program into our heads that "Only a Gibson is good enough".

I'd love to play an Edwards because from what I'm hearing, they actually do match up to the higher end Gibsons. It seems that specs wise, they're doing all the right things. I'm especially pleased to see one piece bodies being used :fing2:

My 335 that arrived today:

I'm sure it plays great and sounds awesome. But that is one ugly piece of wood. It looks like the top of a coffee table that I've had sitting in my basement for 10 years with paint cans on top of it. Absolutely unacceptable for a $2000 instrument.

So far, the only instruments that I have ever purchased new with little or no problems have been made in Japan. Most of the U.S. made instruments I ever owned were purchased used (generally pawn shop prices) where flaws were acceptable and could be corrected for a small investment.

You can look for a used Gibson made in the Kalamazoo plant between 1976 and 1981 (approximately) for a reasonable price. I like to find a good used instrument that has withstood the test of time.

tatood - your perfectly okay in feeling the way you feel - for the money you spent you should have what you want - not what gibson is willing to send you. Send it back, get your hard earned money back and maybe look around for awhile until you find the guitar your looking for. It's a shame.

You'd think when an item is "specifically" ordered by a customer, the corporate machine would somehow have a special cog that was responsible for "extra-nice specimen" QCing. It's not like: "Oh, these 10 000 Les Pauls are for K-Mart, are they mostly alright? Cool, off they go."

Next we'll get superb "Not For Retail" demo guitars (because they'll have made them for one purpose only...to get you to order cruddy production version)

I don't know man, I think you should cherish your older Gibsons but find a new loyalty for your new guitars. Heritage maybe for the hollow bodies and I would suggest Hamer USA for your Les Paul style guitars - better made, better QC. I have an older custom shop Les Paul and a '74 Les Paul custom that I am restoring somewhat - but I would never again buy a new gibson - at least not until they respond to their wake up call and I don't see that happening any time soon - it just seems to be getting worse.

make it count, NEVER buy a Gibson again. That's what I did after I got burned the same way a few times. I once was sent a Les Paul with a broken truss rod, new. Nice eh? The neck looked like oprah lying in a hammock and there was no way to fix it.

Get a Japanese guitar, Edwards, etc. It'll be 10x the quality and 1/3 of the price.

It's true, if you want a "real" gibson, buy a heritage. If you want a "real" fender, buy a G&L. Stop getting hung up on the names. These companies are NOT the same companies they were in the past. They will screw you by selling you junk on brand name recognition only.

It's true, if you want a "real" gibson, buy a heritage. If you want a "real" fender, buy a G&L. Stop getting hung up on the names. These companies are NOT the same companies they were in the past. They will screw you by selling you junk on brand name recognition only.

man, this is all so sad to me seeing as how i'm a die hard gibson fan. they are and always will be my favorite guitars, the only one i own i bought new (2 years ago) and it looks like every gibson i buy from here on out is used in good condition.
