I've been offered a Orville, what should i do?

Happy new year to all.

It's been more than 6 months i m trying to sell my 87 hamer chapparal custom, locally with no success. It's the 24.75" scale hamer with emg85/sa/sa pickup boomerang inlays, ebony fretboard, set neck that's been made during 86-87.

I've been offered by a friend to exchange my hamer for his 93 Orville les paul black beauty plus 100€. Let me say that my hamer has been stripped of it's previous colour, has a crack in the finish along the back of the neck and a crack in the neck/headstock area. Have absolutely no experience in the orville camp, never played one, and tbh i wouldn't care much for it except for the fact i might accept the swap just hoping the orville is a guitar i can sell more easily than the hamer, as i already own a Gibson les paul, i don't need a second one and i am more of a strat guy. Would you accept the exchange or do you advice me to stick with the hamer?

Just for pricing, here is an Orville 1990 Black Beauty for $688 plus free shipping (from Japan to the US.)

I love that Hamer, especially the inlays–but don't know where the price point is on that. Hope that eBay info helps!

Re: I've been offered a Orville, what should i do?

Chapparals of that era seem to command prices >1200$ but consider the fact mine has some serious finish flaws in critical areas.

Well, using Googles conversion you are looking at 640€ for the market rate plus 100€...do you think your Hamer is worth 740€ with the finish flaws?

Have you tried selling on Reverb or something? (I don't like eBay because the fees are so high...)

If the Hamer is structurally sound(tunes up,stays in tune, etc),I'd keep it.

Yeah, what makes you want to sell the Hamer?

No longer into floyd roses, or playing what that particular guitar dictates, plus i own 5 more guitars (strats, teles les paul), and i;ve got everything i like covered.

I understand that, I was a Floyd/Kahler dude for a while...now the only one left is my dad's original Charvel Model 3A that he bought brand new a little before I was born.

Are you going to do the trade?

Just for playing/owning long term, I'd take the Orville. But since you would just flip it anyhow, I say don't bother. Just keep patiently hunting for the right buyer for your Charvel.

Not a thing wrong with the Orville.

That said - you must not be trying to get rid of the Hamer too hard! Damn….that is fine!
