Jackson Warriors

Re: Jackson Warriors

are you taking about yourself?

Nah he means me - I honestly thought him and another guy on the Jackson forum were friends who exchanged friendly banter on there. Clearly I was wrong. As such, I apologise and will leave him to it.

Re: Jackson Warriors

Didn't one of our forum members develop that body shape?

You must be thinking of the War Angel, which was my design:

It's basically a Warrior with Death Angel tips.

Ironically, when the Warrior was first introduced, it was a commercial flop. Mikey Wright (the R&D guy who designed it) was canned shortly thereafter.

Today it's one of their biggest sellers. So big that Ibenhad decided to do their own version (Xyphos).

And the body really is 4 Jackson heads:

Re: Jackson Warriors

I just got my first one too, might be my favorite body shape ever. Super comfy sitting or standing, everything seems compact, in a good way, I don't have to reach anywhere.

Re: Jackson Warriors

If they would have made a cheap low-end version with a single pickup I'd be rocking those instead of the Beasts.

Re: Jackson Warriors

So I checked out the lower end bolt on versions of the Warrior yesterday.. the Floyd version has the output jack coming out the back above the lower horn, so if you're playing it "V" style sitting down, the cable is up against your leg.

Bad design. (For me, anyway.)

The string through version has the output jack on the lower edge of the lower horn, so playing sitting down, it would work just fine for me. Maybe one of these days I'll grab one of those and fill the neck pickup cavity. It is a pretty comfortable to play guitar.

Re: Jackson Warriors

Beautiful guitars. Feel free to post more pics. I love pics.

Was it a JS32 or a WRXT? They recently redid all the JS32 stuff, maybe they fixed that. They look really nice, graphite reinforcement in the necks even. I'm curious how they compare to the WRXMG.

The WRXMG I've got has some lazy-ass finish work, not much sanding and levelling of the crazy thick clear coat. Not very impressive, but I'm gonna sand most of it off anyway. I just don't recall the WRXT I checked out before being like that and I think the JS32's are made somewhere else. I think it might be an Indian manufacturing weakness. The overly thick sloppy goop finish makes it look like a cheaper guitar than it is and kinda hides what it's got going for it. That's unfortunate because they charge a decent amount more for the Indian neckthrus and they're undoubtedly better guitars, but the finish looks worse than a 50 level LTD, and that's not very good. I can fix all that though, and I think I've got a really good foundation for a ****ing great player with it.

The Xiphos is quite a bit heavier (not just because it doesn't have a floyd) with an even slimmer neck (first experience with a Wiz II, much more Wiz-like than Wiz III). Out of the box with a digustingly crusty fretboad and rusty strings it plays decently. I'm really excited for it's potential, I'm expecting the sounds out of it to be quite heavy too... I've decided to put my aftermaths in it and move my nailbomb/cold sweat into my Kelly, I think they'll end up in roughly the same territory then. Awww Sheeit.

Maybe I'll do a full on shootout when I get done.

WRXT is the Floyd one I tried. Not sure on the model number of the string through, but I'm sure it was an Indian one. I'm cool with that though.

Yeah, some of the bodies I've been stripping have had an ENORMOUS amount of filler/leveler under the paint. The body really is at least a pound lighter once all that crap comes off. I don't really know what it does for "tone", but it can't be all that great to have all that thick stuff on it.

Damn, I'm sorry for not cleaning that up first! Just been really busy lately. That reminds me, I've got three unfinished bodies in the garage waiting for stain. ;)

Re: Jackson Warriors

No worries man, I'd still be working it over even if you had cleaned it up and put new strings on it. Who's ****ing auto is on the back of the headstock? I'll probably be taking that off, unless it's Lemmy or something.

No idea. I picked it up used just to grab the Dimarzios out of it. ;)
