JB is a freakin GREAT pickup

Re: JB is a freakin GREAT pickup

Yeah...the JB is simply a great pickup....especially for hard-rock IMO. It just cuts through the mix like a knife with all the right frequencies to sound big yet still cut. Just a great pickup....definitely in my top 5 best pickups of all time.

Re: JB is a freakin GREAT pickup

I've never really liked them, I've owned a Heritage H150 two Hamers and a G&L ASAT with a JB in the bridge - way to spikey for my tastes - I end up replacing them with 59's and I get the tone I like, the only pups I like better than the 59's are the Antiquities, I've used a PG and liked that also.

I have a JB in the bridge of my Les Paul, and I love it. The only thing I've liked more so far is the Burstbucker Pro in a LP standard I was testin out. JB sounds excellent, but the Pro just has a little bit more of that nice vintage crunch in it.

The burstbuckers are great for vintage tones but they sounded a little thin to me and also a little too vintage for my needs.

Re: JB is a freakin GREAT pickup

It is a great pickup. I'm not sure it's the best in the line, but it's damn close to the top.

Re: JB is a freakin GREAT pickup

Funny but as much as I love SD pups I have never warmed up the the JB. I have always found it to be far too focused for my tastes, in some guitars it is like a laser beam.

Yeah!! That's what I like about it!

By the way, what is a Bug-Sey?

Re: JB is a freakin GREAT pickup

the JB in mahogany is pure metal hell! :firedevil

tightness, clarity, and amazing focus (with enough low-end punch to relocate your house!)

Me neither. I briefly used it in the bridge of my fat strat and I wasn't impressed. Wasn't enough low end, power or dirt. And what it does well I find the hot single coils do better.

Re: JB is a freakin GREAT pickup

The Bug-Sey is like a 2 wire zebra JB with different gauge wire. You would need to call the custom shop for more specifics.

The prototype is from the custom shop also. It has more windings than the regular JB and it has an a2 magnet. The original JB has not changed so please don't let the word "prototype" throw you.

I have clips of both if anyone would like to hear them.

You disagreed and now I need to whip your "JB-hating" a$$. :)

Bring it on. And while we're at it I think the Tom Delonge strat is a joke too. What's the matter, too many knobs and pickups on a regular strat? Although I quite like the stock SD Invader it has. Good choice.

Re: JB is a freakin GREAT pickup

I have two Dean Cadillac Selects (like LP's but better).

One has stock pickups and the other has a DiMarzio PAF-Pro/Super Distortion combination.

Based on all the reviews here I've just ordered a SD Jazz/JB combo for the Caddy with stock pickups. I'll report back with a side by side comparison in about two weeks.

Re: JB is a freakin GREAT pickup

Stevo, Bring on the clips. Please let us know signal chain. Real intrested in the sound of an over wound JB. No idea on wire gauge of the JB and on the proto type? Thanks

Re: JB is a freakin GREAT pickup

Got one in my 72 Les Paul Deluxe bridge. While not the end all sound, it does sound very powerful and crunchy. Maybe because it's a Les Paul, it doesn't sound too bright, just right, and enough bass (amp is Crate Blue Voodoo 60 w\4-12 Eminence Legends & 2-12 Vintage 30 & G12H30)
