Jb?

Re: Jb?

Yeah, it should, as should the JB. Really cool band, BTW. I especially like the Boys in Heat album.

Re: Jb?

so if the JB and DD are the same pup with different mags. What are the differences in their sound?

JB - "singing" high mids, somewhat boomy bass, lots of treble

DD - strong mids and highs but no upper-mid spike, bass is tighter, output is a little hotter

if you have the DD already, drop it in and try it out - it can cover a lot of 80s hair bands

Re: Jb?

ya thats what im thinking a might do

Just thought I would mention that I wasn't getting the mids that I wanted with the 598...even though it sound really good. Curiousity was killing me having the C8 not doing anything. So I broke out the soldering Iron and put the C8 in the Baretta. It sounds pretty **** good...it has better mids then the 598 for sure.

Re: Jb?

did the lead guitar player from RATT play with a JB? because listening to some of their stuff, I can really here an upper mid spike and very chuncky gain sound but still VERY articulate and clear at the same time.

Slightly overwound JB with an A2 mag. available from the Custom Shop: http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/custom-shop/artists-signatu/warren_demartin/

I have an A2 JB that reads 17k - not overwound. With the A2, there isn't the "spike" to my ears but the mids are very strong and rich. harmonics are amazing.

Yes but what people need to understand and is something I posted in the Amplifier section (that nobody responded to) is the secret weapon of the 80s and many of the best shredders.

The mid spike has more to do with the Furman PQ3 Parametric EQ on the front end of the amp. Ratt and Eddie played with low gain but boosted the MIDs with the EQ..which adds the fuzziness at the end of the not...so it allows the note to be clear but the distortion to come in after. It is known as the secret weapon of guitar tone.

People are buying all sorts of gear trying to cop these guys tones and the secret was the use of an EQ and boost the mid range frequencies to get the spike and tone.

But I got a lot closer to the Ratt Out of the Cellar tone yesterday by taking swapping in the C8 in place of my Schaller A8 Zebra...the mids came alive more with this pup swap.

I noticed as I couldn't quite capture that raw thin sound from DeMartini. The amp EQ is way different. For early Van Halen I turned everything on the amp EQ all the way up....and it gets that sound. With RATT and Dokken (Back for the Attack style) I turned the Treble all the way down, Mids all the way up, and Bass to about 2 on the Amp EQ.

I noticed the major mid sound differences when I switched over to my ESP with the DD in it....I thought wow this ESP finally sounds good. But the Kramer with the Schaller Zebra A8 wasn't quite hitting the same mids as the DD..it still sounded great but I wanted mids.

So I swapped in the C8..but man the C8 is much louder in my Baretta then it was with the DD or Schaller Zebra. The C8 is sounding great though...need to play it for a couple of weeks and see how I like it.

I my put the A5 mag back in the Schaller to see what it sounds like again...but one thing I sure don't miss from the un-wax potted Schaller is all the sqealing...it's not a good feedback either. I don't get that with the DD or the C8.

I need to find out what that Schaller PUP is really most like. The Vintage Kramer site says that its like a Duncan Custom and his high output...why others say it is a German PAF and like a SD 59. There is a big difference between the two.

Yeah, the 598 is a great pup, but isnt middy.. Works pretty well with my Marshall and the mids dialed up a bit.. (my Retta)

I have the stock (JB/Jazz ) set in my Pacer.. Sweetness!!

I have a JB in my LTD EC400at and its alil bright there. I wouldnt think it would be in all that mahogany.. It isnt "bright" in an unpleasant way, just of all my "Les" type guitars, it has the most cut.

The Distortion in my Gus is sweet! I never really considered one, but it pushes the tubes nicely.
