Joyo US Dream

Re: Joyo US Dream

Hey - for the record: I think Chinese business practices are flat out evil/wrong/unethical. Why do we even allow ANY Chinese product into the US? I'd ask my Congressman (whatever party) why that is.

But since we do - get over it.

Re: Joyo US Dream

It kills me that people that talk smack in their posts (pro or con) never post audio to back up their word drool. I especially love posts that read like "I've never seen or heard one but I can tell you it sucks!"

I'm a lifelong musician, former pro player...I own several expensive amplifiers; some from Britain, some from California. I own several guitars that are made right here in the US of A. I have a closet full of boutique pedals... and I bought a couple of Joyo's just for ****s and giggles. The truth? They exceeded expectations.

I would be glad to post some audio samples of the Joyo's for people to hear...would any of the people who felt so strongly against them be willing to do the same with their boutique pedals?? It has been my experience that people on the internet that talk smack but don't post audio can't really play....and if you can't really play I'm inclined to think you don't really know squat about tone....

Re: Joyo US Dream

Give me the $35 pedal, among SMT stuff, there's hardly any difference at this point. I also have boutique stuff, too, and I love it, and it's worth the dough. If it sounds good, it is good.

Re: Joyo US Dream

I have not tried it but I have to say those Joyo pedals are just plain old cheap junk.

It might sound good...hell, it might sound great but the quality in build and in parts simply can not be there for $35...

You get what you pay for.
That's so cliche! :nono: Unfortunately, one does not always get what he pays for! AND sometimes he gets more than he paid for.

Maybe the build quality isn't 100% up to the level of the American made counterparts, but the sound sure is. I've A/B'ed several different Joyo and Mooer pedals with their progenitors (the Riot, Sweet Honey, TS9, and OCD) and the sound is pretty much the same. And for $35, I can wear out 4-6 of them before spending what I would have spent on just one of the boutique pedals. For most people, it just makes a lot more sense.

And as far as their durability goes, I've had to warranty two MXR pedals in the one year that I've owned my Joyo Sweet Baby.
I've purchased a number of JOYO pedals. Some are fabulous (Sweet Baby and Deluxe Crunch); some are decent with minimal features (tremelo); some have good tone, but are quite noisey (American Sound and British Sound....but the original amps they emulate were also quite noisey and this can be minimized with a NR device) and one I bought is worthless...the Noise gate.

I have no time for the critics who haven't even tried one. If you're taking issue with the US vs. China thing, wake up, friend , it's a world market and has been for some time now, or :welcome: Actually, last decade!

Re: Joyo US Dream

I think most the defensiveness surrounding expensive vs. cheap in cases where the points of distinction are trivial comes from people being heavily invested, emotionally and financially, in expensive gear they have already bought. In such a case, to admit a $40 knock off rivals a $200 domestic equivalent forces a person to admit to themselves that they've potentially wasted a lot of money. I feel bad for them, but only a little. It's buyer's remorse, not cancer.

Re: Joyo US Dream

I have 3 Joyo pedals.
The tuner, which does what it's supposed to do reliably.
The US Dream which sounds terrific for Hard Rock. Amazing warm mids and crunchy as hell.
The Sweet Baby which kills every OD pedal by Boss or Ibanez I've ever tried. Crazy dynamics.

I don't get the hate.

Re: Joyo US Dream

I always think of this when I see the pedal mentioned.

And why isn't the "s" capitalized? Is the name of the product really "Us Dream"? Who's "us"?

Re: Joyo US Dream

Of course I was.

For those that are unaware, Freekish Blues got really popular for a few months selling pedals, even got Dweezil Zappa's endorsement.

They were repainting Joyo Ultimate Drive pedals and selling them in the $200 price range.

Wow! That is pretty crazy!

I'm surprised by the noise complaints here. I use mine extensively with single coils and the gain past half, and it's not noisy unless I'm too close to the amp or something.
Other than that, it's not worse than my Metal Muff or my Jackhammer. But it sounds better than both. :D

My Metal Muff is quiet compared to some pedals but noisey compared to my Mad Professor "1". I'm interested in trying the Joyo US Dream, for the price difference I would be pleased if it sounded similar. lol

Joyo US Dream

After my last US Dream failed, 2 years later I decided to get another one just to see if I got a lemon

The first one sounded great, until the noise developed and switch failed.

This new one is very thin and raspy- does not sound at all like the demos or the prior one I had, it sounds like a $20 dirt box, I prefer my amps overdrive, whether it's the Blackstar HT5, Orange Tiny Terror or EVH 5150. The prior pedal could come close to the blue channel on the EVH,bubut this one is a disappointment. I'm actually thinking the guts of a different pedal were put in it

Re: Joyo US Dream

I got a Joyo US Dream last week for under $30 new and wow, its a great pedal for the price! It does feel pretty cheap and I don't know how long the foot switch will last but it has an incredible sound. Sounds the best thru my Mahogany Strat with Gibson Ceramic pickups.

Re: Joyo US Dream

It's like that tiny hair that keeps growing sideways on the bridge of my nose.

Re: Joyo US Dream

Tried it last week again.
It still sounds as good as I remembered. Nice pedal.
My rig's too mid heavy for it. It should be nice on a scooped, bright Fender clean amp.

Re: Joyo US Dream

I started the thread- after waiting this long I just ordered a Suhr Riot

I would be interested in your thoughts on the Suhr Riot. With the quality (lack thereof) in my Joyo I would definitely be up to getting a Suhr Riot.

Re: Joyo US Dream

I'm always looking to try new things. I saw the US Dream recommended on Amazon, looked at the review of the US Dream versus the Riot so I picked up the Dream. Does it feel cheap compared to a Boss unit? Yeah. Does it sound good? Yeah. My setup was running it into the low gain channel on a DSL 100 and it was thick and juicy and had some nice sizzle on the top end. Noise? Sure it's a little noisy but I was using my trusty noise gate and that took care of it. I actually gave this pedal to a buddy of mine who keeps a minimum of gear. Sounds way better than the on board distortion on his amp (to me at least). I think it's cool for what it is and if you like it the price is nice.

I'd LOVE to try the Riot. Give us a review when you get it jmh151.

Mine is noisy, but it sounds awesome with a lot of reverb, very good ambient sounds.
